It’s the sequel to the massively successful 2006 primetime soap opera as it brought in more award-winning and up-and-coming stars into the already powerhouse cast.
ABS-CBN’s sudden and steep defeat in the TV rating game certainly prompted the Network to return to their strengths, which is doing traditional dramas and soap operas. When GMA Network dominated the competition by filling its primetime block with its ‘telefantasyas’ (fantasy series), ABS-CBN seemingly knew the best way to reclaim its lead was to offer alternative programming. After a few ‘fantaseryes’, the network reverted back to producing heavy dramas like ‘Maria Flordeluna’ (2007), Mga Anghel na Walang Langit (2005), and Gulong ng Palad (2006).
One of ABS-CBN’s most remarkable dramas during the network’s years of defeat from GMA Network was undoubtedly Maging Sino Ka Man, which enthralled its way to viewers’ hearts in 2006.
The show starred some of ABS-CBN’s then biggest young stars, including John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis, and Sam Milby. The series aired from October 9, 2006 to April 25, 2007, and ended its run as one of the network’s most-watched series that year.
Because of the original series’s massive success, a sequel was ordered by ABS-CBN. Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik, premiered on the network’s Primetime Bida block on December 10, 2007. The show was part of the widely-acclaimed omnibus plug which featured the three new ABS-CBN shows (Kung Fu Kids, Lobo, and Palos).
For its second season, the ensemble drama further expanded its massive cast. Toni Gonzaga, Angelica dela Cruz, and Derek Ramsay joined the four main cast members, and new sub-stories featuring the new characters were explored by the show.
In comparison to the 2006 series, the sequel proved to be less successful. The show lasted for only 78 episodes. That said, Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik can still be remembered for some of the most remarkable turning points in the show’s plot. That included the deaths of Celine Magsaysay (Anne Curtis) and Lena Madrigal (Angelica Panganiban).
Also part of the show’s are Christopher de Leon, Chin-Chin Gutierrez, Rosanna Roces, Philipp Salvador, and Vice Ganda. Browse through the photo gallery below to see still and set photos from the series. Don’t forget to share your thoughts and recollection in the comment section:
