Young artist Lexi Gonzales on Wednesday, June 1, pointed out that if it boils down to choosing between love life and career, she would pick the latter.
“Una po ang career. Career lagi. Trabaho muna,” she said during the post-signing virtual media conference of Sparkle GMA Artist Center.
The young actress has been in the entertainment industry, having joined ABS-CBN’s talent arm, Star Magic. In 2016, Gonzales partook in GMA Network’s reality-based artista search, Starstruck, in which she was a runner-up to Shayne Sava.
Although she did not become the ultimate survivor, it opened up opportunities for her, landing a titular role in GMA Public Affairs’ anthology series My Fantastic Pag-ibig: Love Wars.
Moreover, Gonzales has been supporting her family, especially her brother who has autism. She is building her career to secure both her loved ones and her future.
“If anything happens, uunahin ko po ang trabaho more than anything else. Kasi ang trabaho ko hindi lang siya para sakin but also for my family and for my future.”
The young star added, “If I want to spend the rest of my life with the person I love, I want to secure my future also.”
Meanwhile, she and Kapuso actor Gil Cuerva are still in the “getting to know” phase.
“Hindi pa po kami. Pero we’ve been going out for ilang months. Four months maybe.”
Cuerva has become essential to her life as she revealed that he inspires her to do better at work.
“Hindi pa po. Pero ngayon, siya ang nagsisilbing motivation ko and inspiration ko to do well in work.”
She also believed that despite them not leveling up their relationship, they both understand the nature of their work. Conflicts might occur, but for them, “we try to help each other to make it easy for each other.”
“Ako naman po, I like to believe na I’m really understanding. Siya rin po. And we know naman ‘yung field ng trabaho namin is really not easy.

“Wala naman po. Tsaka ngayon, hindi naman po namin tina-tie down ang isa’t-isa. Kumbaga may freedom naman po kami. Trabaho lang naman po eh. May tiwala kami sa isa’t-isa.”
She signed her contract with Sparkle GMA Artist Center along with Rabiya Mateo, Zonia Mejia, and Katrina Chavez. Anthony Rosaldo, Jeric Gonzales, Kirst Viray, Nikki Co, and Radson Flores.
