On June 20, the newest Kapamilya Lovi Poe and actor Piolo Pascual acknowledged the pressure of taking up the role for the Philippine adaptation of the Korean series Flower of Evil.
During the grand launch of their upcoming series, Poe said the feeling of pressure helped the cast focus on working on the set.
“Yeah, of course, hindi naman po talaga maiiwasan makaramdam ng pressure especially talagang minahal ng maraming K-Drama fans ang Flower of Evil. But at the same time, ‘yung pressure naman namin na ‘yun, we can always, turn it into something good.
“Kasi, with that kind of pressure, we can always parang pagbubutihin pa namin lalo. And at the same time, we know naman that we will have our own take on it. So, the fact na, nasa puso na namin na gawin ‘yung sarili namin version, ‘yung sariling Filipino version, parang hindi na namin naiisip ‘yun.”
Pascual considered the feeling of pressure as an advantage for the cast.
“Of course, the pressure was there, especially since there were a lot of K-Drama fans, but after dealing with that, we had to do our work, and it was actually more than the pressure. It’s an advantage because we can use the Korean version as a reference for us to make it different and modify it.
“So it was better for us because we already know what’s going to happen, and we were /able to give it a different flavor and definitely Philippinize it.”
He also noted that the reach of Viu and ABS-CBN superseded the feeling of pressure for the cast.
“And being shown in sixteen different territories, more than the pressure, it’s a privilege to show Filipino content to each territory. So nakaka-proud lang being a Filipino, so na-supercede niya ‘yung pressure.”
Poe and Pascual then recounted one of their favorite moments in the series, which was the shower scene.
“He kept the singing the song– parang theme song namin habang nasa shower scene. Sabi ko, ‘Ito na nga, magkakaroon na nga kami ng love scene together. Sinisira mo pa ‘yung moment.’ He kept singing Levitating by Dua Lipa. So parang instead a love song or like ‘yung parang fit para doon sa scene ‘yung nagpa-play sa head ko, Levititating. It was nice it was a great experience,” Poe narrated.
“Very game si Lovi, kaya nakakatuwa. Wow! napaka-sexy di ba? So alam mo ‘yun ang hirap lang talaga i-censor kasi we where both half-naked pero napaka-sensual namin para doon sa eksena so kailangan mo lagyan ng filter, kailangan mo i-layer para hindi masyadong maging sexy or sensual ‘yung dating. But I enjoyed it. Bitin nga eh,” Pascual added.
Poe then attested to Pascual’s humility and kindness as an actor.
“I’m really, really grateful kasi of course, ako ever since naman, pangarap ko siyang makatrabaho and marami kami sa industriya na gusto mangyari ‘yun. And now, mas na-appreciate ko pa siya dahil aside from being such an amazing actor, napaka-buti niyang tao.
“As in, he’s very, very like genuine. ‘Yung wala kang makikitang kahit anong ego na, ‘He’s Piolo Pascual.’ Wala kang mararamdaman na kahit konting yabang, kaya thankful talaga ako na siya ‘yung una kong nakatrabaho.”
Poe and Pascual star in the Philippine adaptation of the Korean series, Flower of Evil. Joining them are a Kapamilya all-star cast including JC de Vera, Agot Isidro, Denise Laurel, Epy Quizon, Rita Avila, Jett Pangan, Pinky Amador, Joross Gamboa, Joko Diaz, and Edu Manzano.
