On May 31, director Jason Paul Laxamana said he wanted to create movies for teens amid the boom of sexy films.
During the media conference for ‘How to Love Mr. Heartless,’ Laxamana acknowledged the boom of sexy-themed films during the pandemic.
“Ako po nakita naman po natin nagkaroon ng boom of mature films, sexy films, and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, way back in 2013, I did a bold movie for Cinemalaya.”
He even revealed that he pitched a script for a sexy movie to Viva as one of his comeback projects.
“Di ba alam natin na maraming umusbong na pelikula sa VivaMax ‘yung mga medyo sexy. So parang pagbabalik ko sa paggawa ng pelikula, nagpi-pitch ako mismo sa Viva, ‘Oh gagawa narin ako ng sexy films para sa Vivamax. Oh, ito ‘yung mga story lines.’ Ganyan-ganyan.”
He noted that Viva denied his pitch, highlighting his value as a director for bittersweet romances.
“Sinabihan ako ng Viva na wag na raw akong gumawa ng ganyan kasi nga marami na. Stick na lang daw ako doon sa mga usual na ginagawa kong block buster with Viva, na mostly, bittersweet love stories. So itong How To Love Mr. Heartless, ay pagbabalik ko sa usual na ginagawa ko na, bittersweet love stories.”
He also disclosed that he made How to Love Mr. Heartless because he wanted to provide teenage-friendly content amid the pandemic.
“So parang sa dami ng naglalabasang mga ganon, parang gusto ko gumawa ng something that teenagers, the kids, could also watch para magkaroon din ng material na lumalabas ngayong pandemic na para sa kanila.”
He then confirmed that his upcoming Vivamax movie would be a healing treat for viewers.
“Bilang bittersweet love stories, asahan ninyo na maraming hugot, di lang pang romansa, pero hugot na pwedeng maka-heal sayo as a person. Lalo na kung makakarelate ka doon sa trauma na pinagdadaanan ng mga characters.”

The bittersweet romance film premieres on Vivamax Plus on June 10, 2022, and streams worldwide on Vivamax on June 17, 2022.
