On June 3, rapper and Pandayo Music CEO Boss Toyo claimed now as the golden era of Pinoy Hip-Hop.
During the media conference for the Pandayo Alon Water Music Festival, Boss Toyo considered 2022 as the start of the golden era of Pinoy Hip-Hop.
“Ito na ‘yun, ito na ‘yung golden era niyan, and wala pa sa peak ito. So nag-iistart pa lang ‘to so mas marami pang dadaan na taon bago dumating ‘yung peak nito. Doon ninyo talaga makikita ‘yung talagang iba na, iba na ‘yung galawan.”
He also differentiated the Pinoy Hip-Hop industry from the past to today, citing the influence of rap music in recent history.
“Actually, Filipino Hiphop, malayo na from before. Actually itong last presscon, last presscon with Shanti Dope, last presscon with Gloc(-9), red carpet, iba na ‘yung tamaan ngayon ng Hiphop. Basta not the same, unlike before. Ito na ‘yun eh.
“Kung dati more on– hanggang ngayon, mayroon pa rin naman like ‘yung kay Regine Velasquez, or ‘yung mga OPM pero ‘yung panahon ngayon, this is an era for Hiphop, hindi ninyo maitatanggi, isipin ninyo na lang like noong eleksyon, halos lahat ng campaign rallies, Hiphop. May banda man, pero Hiphop pa rin ang banner. So di ba? Puntahan ang Hiphop industry ngayon.”
He also highlighted how Pinoy rap artists utilize social media today to promote their music.
“Actually ang kinaibahan niyan ‘yung social media, halos lahat kasi ng Hiphop na artist, active sila sa social media. Upload sila ng upload ng mga gawa nila, na maraming nakakanood noong time ng pandemic.
“Hindi mo naman makikita sila Ogie Alcasid na nag-uupload ng kanta nila sa social media. So ‘yung panahon ng pandemic, ang libangan ng tao, social media. So nadoon ‘yun ‘yung 24 Beats challenge ni Markbeats.”
Pandayo Music hosts the Pandayo Alon Water Music Festival on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 10 am to 2 am at Amoranto Stadium Quezon City.
