On June 19, the world’s largest running series, Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series, takes place in Manila—the first time the said event has been held in Asia.
The registration ended on Friday, and the event expects more than 5000 runners. The 10k category received the most entries with 1800, while 650 opted for the full marathon.
This running series will feature performances from live bands, including DJ Bling One, Moranos’ band, and Kahilom Drumbeaters. These performances make this running series unique from other running events held across the globe.
This year, ASICS stands as the main sponsor, while Gatorade is the official hydration partner. Alaska, Lightwater, Regent, and Sante also back the event that will fire off in front of Rizal Park.
In the virtual press conference held on June 17 via Facebook, Princess Galura, general manager of The IRONMAN Group, pointed out three things that make this run unique from other similar events.
“Number 1 (it will feature) historical sites of the Philippines way back Spanish colonial time, number 2 may music sa start at finish line, may pa concerts sa festival area, meron ding banda, videoke, boombox, drum beater, along the course. Ang pangatlo, ang medals natin ang tawag ay ‘bling’, hindi siya talagang medal, ang lalaki niya at ang bibigat, hindi siya yung normal na medal mo kasi interactive din siya.”
As part of the COVID safety protocols, participants must submit their vaccination card and health declaration form before claiming their running kits. During the event, the temperature of participants should be 37.5 degrees or lower; wearing masks is also required in the festival area, but once the race fires off, runners may opt to remove their masks.
The running series will not only promote the well-being of participants but also promote the landmarks in Manila as its route will pass through the National Museum, the Manila City Hall, the Walled City of Intramuros, and the Kartilya ng Katipunan.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series 21k and 42k events will start at 5 p.m., while the other categories will fire off at 5 a.m. in front of Rizal Park.
