Laughter does not stop in this riot comedy, helmed by award-winning director Joel Lamangan.
The comedy in Desperadas 2 moved up a notch from the already hilariously chaotic first film. Still starred by Iza Calzado, Ruffa Gutierrez, Marian Rivera, and Ruffa Mae Quinto, this sequel follows the four sisters as they face new problems.
Misadventures come to Isabela (Gutierrez), Patricia (Quinto), Stephanie (Calzado), and Courtney (Rivera). Marriage problems begin to worry Stephanie, while Isabela gets imprisoned. Patricia navigates a new life after divorcing Dave (Wendell Ramos). She has a new suitor in the person of Congressman Fely (Christian Vasquez).
Desperadas 2 is a solid “laugh-fest” as it brims with chuckle-worthy comedy from start to finish. Luga Luda, a new character played by Ogie Alcasid, brought a whole new level of fun and charm Luga Luda is a female character, which means, the talented comedian exerted a lot of effort and strategy to pull it off. The character’s charm comes chiefly from how it was written and how Alcasid delivered it with outstanding believability. Luga Luda’s being the guiding light, and practically the troubleshooter of the four girls, also made her an interesting and easy-to-root-for character.
Aside from the Calzado, Gutierrez, Quinto, Gutierrez, Rivera, Alcasid, Ramos, Jay-R, Vasquez, Will Devaughn, and Nova Villa are also part of the cast. Alex Castro, the late Joy Viado, Niña Jose, Paulo Avelino, Dion Ignacio, Lou Veloso, Robert Woods, Sophia Baars, and Carl Guevarra also played special roles in the film.
According to reports, the film grossed more than PhP40 million at the local box office. Noli Villabos won the Best Make-Up trophy for his work on the film, while Carl Guevarra was nominated as Best New Male Actor at the 2009 PMPC Star Awards for Movies.
