At the media conference for Misis Piggy on April 21, seasoned actors Sylvia Sanchez and Ricky Davao talked about the difficulties faced by their celebrity kids when stepping out of their parent’s shadow.
Sanchez said their children face more pressure than their parents because of their legacy as actors.
Mahirap talaga. Mahirap ‘yung nanay mo artista and ‘yung anak mo artista. Kasi mas under sila sa shadow natin.”
Davao added that their kids carry the baggage of reaching their parent’s success in the showbiz industry.
So it’s very challenging for anak ng mga artista talaga.”
As for supporting their parents who entered showbiz, Davao said he showed support for his daughter Arabella Davao by giving her advice about being an actor.
“Nagbibigay lang ako ng mga payo kasi siyempre kumbaga, been there done that and still doing it up to now. So from nag-umpisa ako medyo alam ko na ‘yung history ng industriya, kasi nabuhay ako artista na ‘yung magulang ko, the late Charlie Davao, ‘yung father ko, Sampaguita Pictures, so I know the history. Nakukwento niya sa akin, so alam ko lahat ‘yun.”
Sanchez urged her kids, Ria Atayde and Arjo Atayde, to focus on their foundation for acting.
“Ako as a mom, ‘yung pagpasok talaga ni Arjo at Ria nakatutok ako. Importante sa akin ‘yung–lagi kong sinasabi sa kanila from the start, kailangan puliduhin ninyo ‘yung foundation ninyo dito sa industriya. Like sabi nga nila, Mommy, ano ‘yung puliduhin ‘yung foundation, acting.”
As for young actors who aren’t showing respect to their seniors, Davao shared his experience of communicating with seasoned actors when he started in showbiz.
So may bonding agad. Importante ‘yun kasi kung wala sila, sila ang nagpave ng way for everybody to be here in the industry.”
Sanchez then called out young stars who claim they’re too shy to greet their seniors as a sign of respect.
