LUMOS is a Singaporean company specializing in projectors. One of its products–is the LUMOS RAY Smart Home Cinema Projector, a smart projector packed with features yet at a very affordable price, starting with PHP 8,999.00 for the regular and 11,999 PHP for the smart version with built-in Netflix, YouTube, and other apps plus a WIFI and Bluetooth connectivity.
UNBOXING.
The package is a small square white box.
One can get the projector itself–the remote is important–so don’t lose it because you won’t get additional control on the projector, and it requires a triple aaa size battery. You also get an HDMI cable and 3.5 mm AV to RCA adapter, the power cable, and last but not the least–is the manual.
Setting up the projector is easy, plug the power cable, press the power on/off button, and use the remote.
The remote one can adjust the volume; navigate with the mouse option, select the input source, and power it on and off.
DESIGN AND BUILD.
It looks stylish and cute and has a boxy modern design and the color is white. It weighs around 1.2KG–a very portable and lightweight product that you can [easily] bring anywhere in the house or outside. It has a leather carrying strap attached to it.
Aesthetically, it is great and occupies less space on whatever surface you put on it.
On the front, there is the projector lens located in the center. On top are the focus adjustment and power on/off button, while IO ports and connectivity are at the back; so as the IR sensor for the remote, a headphone jack, an AV out port, an HDMI port, a USB port as well as the microSD card slot, and the power plug input. The left and the right side has the speaker (a Bluetooth speaker labeled as Dolby audio supported).
DISPLAY.
It has a native resolution of 720P that support full HD signal 1080P. The brightness has 3000 nits/lumens.
One can do keystone adjustment through the menu on the Lumos, but I will say as much as possible to try to get it straight on the wall because software keystones always make your screen a little bit smaller.
The projector is pretty good and works amazingly in terms of picture quality.
The projector is dependent on the room’s lighting conditions. Avoid getting a lot of lights in the room for it to perform very well. A good distance can also be a factor one can tell the difference in how big you can get the screen before the pixel becomes too much.
SOFTWARE.
You do have the option of a regular projector or the smart variant. The one with us is the smart variant which runs on Android 9. It has Bluetooth and wifi connectivity. The wifi only supports 2.4 gigahertz and does not support 5 gigahertz. No need to wire since the LAN port is available.
YouTube and Netflix apps are already installed in default so you can choose and enjoy what entertainment videos you need. A screen mirror app is also available to mirror a phone to the projector.
Using the device as a Bluetooth speaker–the projector automatically switches off and becomes just a speaker. The audio quality is decent, and it does the job as a speaker.
Navigation is a little challenging on the Netflix app, especially checking other menus and searching. Fortunately, it comes with a function that activates a mouse on the screen, which helps solve the minor issue. The mouse screen can be useful with other apps or for even easier navigation, attaching a USB mouse or keyboard
CONCLUSION.
So, in my opinion, Lumos has raised the bar of what to expect in a budget projector. One can get smart variant with WIFI and Bluetooth connectivity plus it has default YouTube, Netflix, and Mirror apps installed. So make your room or bedroom an instant cinema venue.
