Why You Should See It:
The inspiring bond that never breaks between a child and a parent, is at the core of this GMA Network’s new afternoon drama. Starring the Comedy Queen, Ai-Ai de las Alas, Raising Mamay sheds light upon the priceless virtue of selfless and unconditional love, with the relationship of a mother and her daughter serving as the singular factor to drive its story forward.
Raising Mamay follows the story of a hardworking mother, Letty (Ai Ai de las Alas). She and her husband, Bong (Antonio Aquitania), have been trying to have a child. A health condition required Letty to undergo a medical operation, which rendered her incapable of bearing a child, as a result. When Bong’s friend, brought to their a house an orphaned child, Letty conveniently saw the infant’s arrival as the Almighty’s fulfillment of their long-awaited dream of having a child. She proposed to Bong to have the child adopted, instead. They named her, Abigail (Shayne Sava).
Unbeknownst to Letty, however, Abigail is truly Bong’s child, but with another woman. Once exposed, this truth is bound to rattle Letty’s relationships with both Abigail and Bong. But there’s a bigger crux that will either break or strengthen Abigail and Letty’s love and devotion for each other: an accident that will render the latter paralyzed and act like a child.
Being her first lead starring role, Abigail is poised to showcase StarStruck alumna, Shayne Sava’s dramatic chops. While she obviously will get dwarfed by the brilliance of de las Alas, who has long cemented her stature as an effective dramatic actress, the opportunity is no less than stunning for Sava.
Letty is a role, not too intimidating, for de las Alas to take, as she has pulled off exemplary roles in the past. That said, the character’s intriguing personalities and dynamics are still set to challenge de las Alas; but it won’t be surprised if she ends up tackling it with ease.
Raising Mamay airs from Monday to Friday on the GMA network’s Afternoon Prime block. Watch the official full trailer, below:
