On May 12, seasoned actress and former ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio admitted she got interested in working abroad.
During the media conference for her upcoming show, Shine On, Overseas Pinoy, Santos-Concio recalled what her father said after filming her first movie.
“Nako, yeah, after Itim, because my father allowed me to do only one movie. So my first movie was, Itim. Sabi niya, ‘Sige, I’ll allow you to do one movie, but really I want you to find a regular job because you finished a four year college course. Sayang naman, you put your education to good use.’ Sabi niyang ganon. Eh, ako naman masunuring anak.”
She then recounted landing a job in the United Nations but had to return to the Philippines when her father passed.
“I went to the U.S., nag-apply ako sa United Nations as an executive assistant, I was a fresh graduate, natanggap ako. But then, soon after, I lost my father so naiba ‘yung takbo ng buhay ko. I had to come back, and I chose to pursue a career in the movies, and the rest is history.”
Santos Concio now hosts her newest talk show, Shine On, Overseas Pinoy, wherein she talks with OFWs and their experiences with finances.
She expressed her excitement over working with any projects involving her Kababayans abroad.
“I’ve always been excited with anything regarding our kababayan’s from other parts of the world. Kasi ako, mahilig akong makipag kwentuhan, mahilig akong makinig sa mga kwento ng ating mga kababayan.”
She even shared some of her experiences speaking with OFWs and hearing their stories.
“Minsan nga pag nasa airport and I’m just waiting for boarding time, I go to the waiting lounge where all of our kababayan’s are, mapa-domestic helper, mapa-seamen, talagang uupo na ako doon sa kanilang harapan, kakamustahin ko sila and before you know it nakikipagkwentuhan na sila sa akin. Nakukwento na nila ‘yung kanilang mga sakripisyo.
“So enjoy ako kasi nabibigyan ng mukha sa akin ang kahalagahan ng pagsasakripisyo ng ating mga OFW’s. ‘Yung tinatawag nga nating bagong bayani no. I love doing this, I love engaging with our kababayans from other parts of the world.”
Santos-Concio’s newest show in partnership with Sun Life premieres starting May 14 through iWantTFC.
