Via Instagram on Saturday, April 30, Carla Abellana revealed that her grandfather is a victim of Martial Law under the regime of the former president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
The actress shared that her grandfather was detained because of a land ownership issue.
Abellana shared the IG story of her cousin, Samantha Chan, who related the testimony of Boots Anson-Roa about Martial Law during Marcos’ regime.
“Sam is my cousin. And yes, our Grandfather was detained because the Marcoses wanted our 25-hectare property in Sta. Ana all to themselves,” Abellana said in the caption of her IG story.
“During Martial Law, my grandfather (like many others) was detained against his will. He didn’t do anything wrong or illegal. He just had a good business and some land that the Marcos administration wanted to take over,” Chan wrote.
“…And he was one of the ‘lucky’ ones, he got out alive. He did not disappear.
“Tama naman we can’t change or keep living in the past, but we do have the opportunity to shape a bright future. Tama din that we should respect other people’s opinion, but also, we can’t deny the facts,” she said.
On Tuesday, April 19, Abellana finally revealed that the presidential aspirant she will be supporting this upcoming May election—is Vice President Leni Robredo.
On her Instagram, the actress revealed her presidential bet by applying pink lipstick. She captioned her posts using the hashtags #LetLeniLead, #LetLeniLead2022, and #IpanaloNa10ParaSaLahat.
