Home Sweetie Home is notably John Lloyd Cruz’s last project with ABS-CBN before he took an indefinite hiatus and eventually moved to GMA Network. Directed by Edgar Mortiz, the sitcom aired from 2014 to 2020. The series starred John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga as the main leads, while Miles Ocampo, Clarence Delgado, Sandy Andolong, Bayani Agbayani, Luis Manzano, Rio Locsin, Carmi Martin, Jobert Autria, Nonong Balinan, and Alex Gonzaga.
Edgar Mortiz also played a special role in the series.
The show follows the story of a married couple Julie (Gonzaga) and Romeo (Cruz), who live under the same roof as Julie’s mother, Loi (Sandy Andolong). Loi has been very vocal about her objection to her daughter marrying Romeo, due to the latter’s reputation as a womanizer. However, as they navigated their lives together, Julie’s family eventually accepted Romeo as a part of their family.
One of the series’s highlights is when Julie and Romeo’s daughter had a christening rite, as many of ABS-CBN’s big stars were tapped to guess on that particular episode. Among those big stars who appeared on the show as godfathers and godmothers to Baby Sam, are the “momshies”, Jolina Magdangal, Alex Gonzaga, and Karla Estrada. Vice Ganda, Dominic Ochoa, and Arci Muñoz, also played special guest roles for the episode.
Home Sweetie Home had a total of three seasons and 315 episodes. It can be recalled that when Cruz suddenly departed from the show in 2019, showrunners had the show practically reformatted with new cast members. Piolo Pascual also became the main leading man of Gonzaga. However, when the pandemic happened and ABS-CBN was eventually shut down, the show was ultimately canceled and discontinued airing.
