On March 25, TV and radio newscaster Mike Enriquez said he has no deal-breaker right now with his return to GMA News.
During a media conference, Enriquez cited the current events amid the pandemic and elections as his reason to remain in the media.
“Wala, I cannot think of anything that would break the deal–as of now. Kasi ang daming nangyayari eh. People like us in media, this is what we live for, eh.”
In 2018, Enriquez underwent heart bypass surgery. Recently, he went on medical leave to undergo a kidney transplant that required a three-month isolation period.
The seasoned newscaster also revealed that he prayed that his recovery and return to GMA news would fall during the campaign period of the elections.
“This is one of my prayers to the Lord. I kept telling him, ‘Lord, please make me well enough for the election coverage.’ And he answered my prayer. Pinagdasal ko ‘yan. One thing I’ve learned, walang hindi makukuha sa dasal. The power of prayer. Ibang klase talaga.”
He then shared details regarding the debates GMA Network has in store for the candidates of the 2022 elections while listing the struggles their production team would face in mounting the event.
“Just to put it in a nutshell, alam niyo ‘yung debate, dalawang oras ‘yan. Kung hindi huhusayan ang presentation niyan, ang packaging niyan tutulugan tayo ng mga tao. Dalawang oras. Who wants to listen to politicians for two hours, except themselves? If they love to talk.
“The challenge is how to make the so-called debates interesting, lively, colorful, but no less substantive, and that is what we are preparing for, and that is what the audience will get.”
Enriquez started in the broadcasting business in 1969 when he first worked at the Manila Broadcasting Company. He then became an anchor for several radio shows and news programs.
Enriquez evolved into a household name in the media industry throughout his career.
The GMA News pillar, multi-awarded broadcast journalist, and seasoned news anchor, Mike Enriquez returned after his medical leave in December 2021.
