On April 12, talent manager-producer-public relations man Noel Ferrer and netizens debunked Claudine Barretto’s claim that the dearly departed actor Rico Yan was a true-blooded Marcos supporter.
On his Instagram, Ferrer fact-checked Barretto by revealing that Yan once celebrated the overthrowing of a dictator with the writer-producer.
“FACT CHECK. I was with Rico Yan at the EDSA People Power Anniversary that celebrated the overthrowing of a dictator plus his family and cronies. Let us not use his memory in vain or for personal gains. Rico – and his family for that matter, deserve better. God bless them Fr. @titocaluag , right? #RememberingRico“

A netizen also disproved Barretto’s claims by uploading a Correspondents documentary of Yan discussing the Martial Law era with Ka Satur Ocampo, who fought during the Marcos regime.
The netizen also pointed out that Yan’s grandfather General Manuel Yan resigned from his post in 1972 because the general didn’t want his involvement with the declaration of Martial Law.
There is no way Rico Yan would support the son of a dictator. Please take time and watch his documentation. Plus, his grandfather General Yan resigned his post in 1972 because he did not want to be involved with the implementation of martial law. (1/4) pic.twitter.com/ITh4333oNH

Barretto’s claim has since been deleted from the comment section of her post, expressing her support for Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. However, netizens got a quick screenshot of her comment and have since shared it on social media.
Kadiri naman to so Claudine Barretto. Okay we get your support for Blengblong, pero yung gamitin mo pa si Rico Yan? Why the need to mention? Also please watch this documentary that Rico Yan lead for Martial Law – https://t.co/8iAWnungLn pic.twitter.com/1hrIDy2EoV
