Multimedia Princess Nadine Lustre made it clear on Thursday, March 31, that she is ready to take on mature roles, starting with the psychological thriller movie Greed.
“Gusto ko talagang gumawa ng mga films na out-of-the box,” admitted Lustre during the film’s virtual media conference.
She has done romantic movies like Diary ng Panget, Talk Back and You’re Dead, Para sa Hopeless Romantic, and many other similar films. This time, instead of romance and drama, her upcoming film is a thriller.
“Personally, I don’t want to be boxed into that kind of branding. Because I know that there is so much more that I can do, and there is more than I can offer, and I really wanna explore,” explained Lustre.
The actress revealed that her character in Greed is very different from her previous roles, making it challenging and exciting at the same time.
“Doon ako nae-excite talaga eh. If something is very challenging, if something is difficult, if something is— yung alam mong—parang, ‘Wow! Gagawin ko ‘to? Sobrang kakaiba nito ah.’ It gets me excited kasi alam ko na hindi madali. I know that it is gonna be a challenge. So ‘yon, definitely more out-of-the-box projects with me,” she continued.
Was it a challenge?
Lustre said it was challenging to give life to her character Kichi given that her last acting project was in 2019.
However, the actress did not doubt herself, explaining that she wanted to do such roles initially.
“But when it comes to the story and the role, eto kasi ang klase ng acting pieces na gusto kong gawin. Ito yung mga klase ng roles na gusto kong gawin ever since. Just because lahat halos ng mga films ko before are all romance, rom-com, drama.
“Gusto ko kasi yung nacha-challenge ako. Ayoko ng parang madali… okay kaya ko ‘yan, madali lang iyan. Kasi alam ko na yung growth, growth comes when you’re challenged, growth comes when you’re out of your comfort zone.”
It even surprised her, realizing that she has the capabilities to do a psychological thriller such as Greed.
“I guess sobrang taas kasi ng adrenaline rush ko when we’re shooting some of the big scenes. Hindi ko alam. I think also because I’m super excited.
“You know, I’m excited to see how the scene is gonna transpire, how everything is gonna come to an end. And it’s such—medyo heart-racing kasi yung mangyayari.
“Especially me na I put myself in Kichi’s shoes, lahat nang nararamdaman niya sa character, nararamdaman ko din talaga as Nadine. But in a different way. It’s more of excitement rather than fear, anger, and all. Kaya sobrang na-enjoy ko ang shoot namin.”
Lustre said that this time, she avoids being “redundant.”
“I’m becoming more particular when it comes to the stuff that I do. Just because I don’t want to be redundant. If it’s something that I’ve already done before, I wanna move on from it. Because I wanna do new things; I want to challenge myself; I want people to see me in a different light.”
She added, “I’m kind of veering away from romance or kilig, and all of that. Kasi nakita na sa akin ‘yan before and I don’t wanna be stuck on kilig, I don’t wanna be stuck in rom-com. I want people to see a different Nadine this time around.”
Greed also stars Diego Loyzaga and Epy Quizon. The movie will have its premiere on April 8.
