The Antoinette Jadaone-helmed Kapamilya film topped all movie blocks on the weekend and all programs on Black Saturday in TV ratings.
Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, a.k.a. LizQuen reigned supreme on Black Saturday, as their Black Sheep Productions film, Alone/Together (2019) claimed the top spot among the most-watched movie blocks, and scripted entertainment shows last weekend. According to the TV ratings released by rating firm AGB Nielsen, the LizQuen-starrer rated 14.5%, the highest among all programs aired on Black Saturday (April 16).
It is also the most-watched movie block across all free TV channels, beating TV5’s CineCinco and ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Blockbusters. It is also notably higher than the flagship primetime newscast, 24 Oras Weekend, which settled for second place on Bllack Saturday, with 14.2%. On Easter Sunday, April 17, in the magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho unexpectedly took the lead, with 15.6%.
Grossing nearly PhP400 million at the global box office, Alone/Together is the second highest-grossing Filipino film in 2019, just behind the mammoth box-office grosser, Hello Love, Goodbye. The film follows the story of young lovers Tin (Soberano) and Raf (Gil), who grew apart when one started pursuing her dreams. Soberano was highly-praised for her exemplary performance in the film, with many critics noting how her character represented the modern youth: bold, ambitious, but at the same time, liberal and nationalistic.
Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholar Foundation awarded Gil and Soberano as Prince and Princess of Philippine Movies. Also, their love team–as the Most Popular in the movies in 2019.
The film’s airing on local Kapuso channels was the landmark deal between former rival networks–ABS-CBN and GMA Network.
It allows the latter to air some of the biggest films produced by the film production and distribution arm of ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and its sister production studios, including Blacksheep Productions and Skylight Films.
The film is just second among the stellar list of box-office films, produced by the Kapamilya film outfit. It Takes A Man and A Woman, starred by John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo, aired a week earlier as an offering of the Kapuso movie block, GMA Blockbusters.
