The culmination of the talented Kapuso singer’s ‘Limitless’ trilogy tugged at the heartstrings as it imparted a much-needed message of hope through sweet, ecstatic, and hopeful performances.
Julie Anne San Jose, GMA Network’s undoubtedly most-successful female recording star (she is a rare Diamond record awardee) is truly a master of surprises.
Performing for the final part of her stellar musical trilogy, Limitless, the 27-year-old Kapuso talent, bared her soul through her 90-minute showcase, with anthemic ballads and energetic upbeat performances. The entirety of the show is pure eargasm, but the hope she was able to impart, feeds the longing hearts.
“Natutuwa ako na may glimmer of hope…na things will be better” she said, as she shared her excitement for how things have been heading in a hopeful direction.
That seems to be the moving thought that her sweet acoustic performance of her song Right Where You Belong wanted to impart. Scenic and open, the venue of Rise, the last leg of her trilogy, stands out as a majestic backdrop to San Jose’s gracious unraveling as a true artist that night. Her beauty shimmered relentlessly, but her talent left an indelible imprint.
Being with the Kapuso Network for more than a decade, San Jose has established herself as an artist who relentlessly works to improve her craft. “The feeling is good when you get to share your music and your experiences through your craft” she proudly shared in one of her interviews. In ‘Rise’, that intent to share was evident through and through. Julie Anne just soared.
Her gratitude for music is also one of the things that continuously drives her to love and impart her music. Through ‘Salamat’, a The Dawn classic’, San Jose brought people up to their feet, her energy oozing while keeping her unmistakable poise. The Kapuso singer-actress is one of those few in the business who can both own the stage of singing and acting, and as most expected, Julie Anne certainly aced her song-and-dance performances in ‘Rise’. True enough, she made her audience go ‘Levitating’ with her cover of the Dua Lipa anthem.
She had a rare, heartfelt, number with Myke Solomon, the show’s musical director, with whom she made beautiful harmonizations via their cover of Ben & Ben’s ‘Duyan’. That same feeling lingered and made hearts swell when she belted an insanely moving cover of Hale’s Kung Wala Ka. One of the most memorable highlights of the show, however, is when she shared a ‘kilig’-inducing duet of Coldplay and BTS track, My Universe, with fellow ‘The Clash’ host, Rayver Cruz’. Is it just me or are they already an item? The smitten fans seem to know something I don’t.
You can’t just dismiss Julie Anne’s being a very articulate storyteller. It’s that truth she delivered when she took on Jacky Chang’s Vispop ballad ‘Pero Atik Ra’, and her signature song ‘I’ll Be There’, whose message of faithfulness and friendship, is certainly what most people need today.
We are touched by her journey of self-discovery in the mountains of Sultan Kudarat. Through ‘Rise’, the Kapuso recording starts unveiling that magic she was able to muster during her quest to find peace.”’ Every moment is a blessing, and sometimes we take that for granted” she said, before sharing the soulful music she was able to write.
Rise, like how San Jose described her song, is a love letter. It is an encouraging reminder that it is time to move on. Through the first two legs of her musical trilogy, Julie Anne somewhat gave us instructions on how to navigate the difficult times of the pandemic: “Breath” and allow yourself to “Heal”. With this last installment, we are reminded that the doors have finally swung open to moving forward and that the wind has finally blown to allow us to glide through with our newfound wings, and ‘Rise’.
Limitless is helmed by its creative director, Paolo Valenciano, and musical director, Myke Solomon.
