The ABS-CBN Network and GMA Network recently made history as the two network giants joined forces to allow Star Cinema films to be shown on the Kapuso network.
In a virtual contract signing ceremony on April 5, GMA Network President Gilberto Duavit and ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak announced the partnership of the two networks.
GMA President and COO Gilberto “Jimmy” R. Duavit Jr. expressed his happiness over the deal and is looking forward to more collaborations with ABS-CBN.
“Echoing what I heard on the AVP earlier, ‘ang dating impossible,’ that resonated simply because over the years we’ve both sat across different partners, different individuals, formalizing partnerships. But there was one that was always missing, something that many believe was not possible nor probable.
“We’re very pleased because the significance of our partnership today ushers in the possibilities of a far broader set of conversations, potential partnerships, and cooperation that will have the benefit, not only mutually to GMA and ABS-CBN, perhaps more importantly, to the benefit of the public we both serve, the Filipino viewer,” he said.
With this partnership, Kapuso fans can now enjoy watching Star Cinema movies aired on GMA Network’s local channels starting this April.
Some Star Cinema movies involve Alone/Together, How to Be Yours, Till My Heartaches End, Ang Babae sa Septic Tank, Ang Cute ng Ina Mo!, It Takes a Man, and a Woman, Just The Way You Are, and Fantastica, among others.
The ABS-CBN and GMA Network have long been rival networks in Philippine television history. After their recent historic partnership, will this be the beginning of more collaborations in the future?
