The last time the Kapamilya movie block time aired on TV5 was in August 2021.
Kapamilya viewers who are also certified Kapatids, can now again watch the classic movies starred by the legendary King of Philippine Cinema, Fernando Poe Jr. The Kapamilya movie block, FPJ: Da King, returned to TV5’s Sunday afternoon program line-up, on March 27, 2022, with the restored version of the film Ayos Na Ang Kasunod, as an opening salvo. The 2000 film also starred Ara Mina as Poe’s leading lady, Jimmy Santos, Candy Pangilinan, Pacquito Diaz, Romy Diaz, Berting Labra, Tiya Pusit, and Jaime Fabregas.
The return of the beloved program to TV5 came seven months after its last episode or 14 months since it first debuted on the channel. The movie block’s premiere on TV5, alongside the Sunday noontime musical variety show ASAP Natin ‘To, on January 24, 2021, was part of the historic TV5-ABS-CBN partnership, which allowed several programs produced by ABS-CBN to aired on TV5.
More FPJ classics will air under the top-rating movie block, which saw its viewership double with its March 27, 2022 episode. That episode rated 4 % according to AGB Nielsen National Urban TV Measurement (NUTAM) data, higher than the 3.6% obtained by GMA Network’s GMA Blockbusters. That marks the first time an ABS-CBN program airing on weekends, defeated its rival Kapuso show in the rating game, which makes FPJ’: Da King’s return truly exceptional
In the past, the movie block has aired several FPJ’s classic movies, including Alamat ng Lawin (2002), Ang Dalubhasa (2000), Batas ng .45 (1991), Batang Quiapo (1986), Isang Bala Ka Lang (1983), and Pepeng Kaliwete (1982), most of which digitally restored to their original glory. Through both A2Z’s and TV5’s expanding nationwide presence, the Kapamilya show is all set to be seen by the Kapamilya viewers who have missed their favorite FPJ films.
FPJ: Da King airs on Kapamilya Channel on cable, and A2Z and TV5, on free TV. Catch new titles every week after ASAP Natin ‘To at 2:00 PM.
