On March 17, Watsons Philippines PR and Sustainability Director Viki Encarnacion shared details about their flagship programs for suppliers, employees, customers to support sustainable products.
Encarnacion said during their DO GOOD media event that they want to involve multiple stakeholders in promoting sustainable products in Watsons’ stores.
“Sustainable choices are our flagship program for our customers. Let me explain that it’s not just for customers. Because for a retailer like us, for any program to make a /strong impact, we must involve many stakeholders.”
She then disclosed how Watsons incentivize suppliers who promote sustainable options in their products.
“So for our suppliers, we are /encouraging them to come up with more sustainable products. We’re now at 1,200, and we want to double that. So we want them to bring up more–introduce more refill packs, we want them to review, relook at the ingredients that they use and even the packaging they’re using for their products.
“We incentivize them ah. Once they qualify for that classification, we actually give them more display space. So that’s the first. And that to a retailer–a supplier is very, very important–more merchandise display.”
She then revealed that they include sustainable products promotion in the employee’s annual review.
“Second is our employees. We are asking them to push it more to our customers. When a customer walks in, our employees try to convince our customers to switch to sustainable options.
“You know to our employees, we give them a target, that a certain percent of our sales should come from sustainable choices and that is used actually, at the end of the year, when they are /evaluated at their performance, we look at that achievement of that target.”
Finally, she emphasized how Watsons remind customers that each sustainable products help the collection and recycling programs of the Plastic Bank.
“And of course, to our customers, we appeal to their /altruistic spirit.
We advertise more, and we’re actually saying that for every sustainable product they buy, they’re actually supporting the collection and the recycling programs of the Plastic Bank.”
Trusted health and wellness partner Watsons Philippines continues to DO GOOD for the planet, the community, its customers, and employees by presenting more sustainability options and programs that aim to help and save the environment.
