Filipino rock band The Juans on Thursday, March 17, revealed that they remain together because they share the same vision—to inspire every Juan.
Carl Guevarra, the lead vocalist of the group, explained that despite having differences in preferences, influences, and aspirations, they all were driven by the same goal.
“But because there’s a bigger vision that we said yes to, and that there’s a bigger purpose than we embrace, it’s a lot easier, to sort of, set aside our personal preferences,” he said during the press conference of their latest album Liwanag.
He even pointed out, “Collective goal versus personal gain.”
Guevarra emphasized that the group will always prioritize every Filipino’s desire and wants.
“So whatever you think for that to happen, that’s what we’re gonna do. So if that means doing something that I don’t particularly like, but achieving the vision, I would say yes to that. So madali sa amin mag-trim down alin yung oo at hindi, alin yung isa-sacrifice ko at alin yung ipaglalaban ko, in light of the purpose and the vision that we embrace as a group.”
The Juans enjoy being a group because of their similar “purpose.”
Also present in the presscon were members Japs Mendoza, Chael Adriano, RJ Cruz, and Joshua Coronel. They each took turns explaining the best part of being in a group.
Mendoza stated that he found his long-lost brothers, given that he is the only male in his family.
“Best part meron akong mga brothers. S’yempre yung mga wisdom na nakukuha ko dito sa group and knowing na mayroon akong kasabay mag-grow. For me, sobrang precious noon.”
Adriano reiterated that they all share the same vision—to inspire the ordinary Juan to dream big and achieve bigger.
“We’re not just chasing a dream but we’re living a purpose. And that is to inspire the ordinary Juan to achieve their dreams, to live their purpose, and to live every bit and every moment of their lives as if it’s their last.”
On the other hand, Cruz was inspired by his co-members to strive harder.
“So parang ako din, when I look at my life, parang kung kaya nila, and kung nagagawa nila, makakaya ko rin and kaya ko din. Kasi at the end of the day, tulungan naman kami dito eh. So parang whatever na matutunan nila, matutunan ko din; whatever na ma-acquire nila, parang ma-experience ko din.”
Coronel then talked about how each group member knows how to differentiate work from personal relationships.
“Natutuwa ako kasi mayroon akong mga kasama, mga kabanda, mga kapatid na ganoon yung professional sa work pero nandiyan din as friends.”
Guevarra also shared his thoughts regarding the matter. He explained that it is “more of an honor and privilege” to be with The Juans.
“Hindi lang siya what I like about it eh. It’s more of realizing that this is such an honor, this is such a privilege to be part of this group. To have the chance to sit on this chair today. How many millions of people are dreaming of this? I just feel so favored and so privileged to have the chance to get to live a life like this.”
He continued by saying that he was “extremely” lucky to be working with his bandmates.
“Maraming salamat na binigyan mo ako nang chance na makasama sa ganitong grupo. Because they’re not just talented, they have good character, they are very humble, and they’re very driven. To get to be part of that kind of group is for me, a one-in-a-million chance that could ever happen to me,” expressed Guevarra.
Liwanag album is already available on all streaming platforms.
