In the latest episode titled “Halalan 2022: The Race is On!” Tony V and Danny B tackled the different gimmicks and strategies of candidates to court the voters ahead of the May 9 national elections. These tactics include giving away collaterals, singing and dancing on stage by candidates, the powerful speeches during campaign rallies, and even attending or skipping political debates.
Joining them in the podcast were Gen X campaign strategist Alan German, Gen Y political scientist Cleve Arguelles, and Gen Y co-founder of YouVote: A Voters’ Registration and Education Campaign na si JM Suelo.
“Sadly ang Filipino voter, we’re very prone to tinatawag nating D.E.A.N., Delight, Entertain, Amuse, and make Noise. ‘Yan ang pinipili nating kandidato. Who can delight us the most, who entertains us the most, who amuses us the most, and who is making the most noise,” shared Alan on what they have observed among Filipino voters.
Cleve also gave his take on the so-called negative campaigning. He said while it is important to expose who among the candidates are lying, they have observed that Filipinos do not like this type of campaigning. “In fact, kaya nga rin risky ‘yung participation sa debates. You go all in then come out as a very negative candidate then you also lose support from among the voters,” he explained.
When it comes to surveys, JM said these can be helpful even to those lagging in the race. “As for me, this serves as a challenge for the presidentiables and for the candidates to really step up their game din po when it comes to their campaign. So double the efforts talaga and double time kung gusto talagang manalo for the elections,” aniya.
This Thursday (March 3) on the 10th episode of the podcast, Tony and Danny will be joined by Gen X Dir. James Jimenez of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and Gen Y Johnny Rosales of Boto ng Kabataan to clarify the campaign guidelines and identify the common violations committed by candidates during their campaign rallies.
