On March 1, The cast of GMA Network’s new legal drama, Artikulo 247, shared their thoughts on the revised penal code article that inspired the series.
During a media conference for the afternoon teleserye, Kapuso actress Rhian Ramos said the series would help spread awareness about the legalities involving the revised penal code article.
“Parang feeling ko when you have more knowledge and your mas prepared, parang posibleng it could save you from making a mistake when you have more knowledge on something.
“I don’t want people to know about it so that gawin nila, and patayin nila ‘yung mga asawa nila at mga kabit nila. If not for that purpose, I want people to know about it so that they can avoid cheating, perhaps, kasi kung alam mo na ganon kalaki ‘yung consequence ng mga actions mo baka mas lalo mong i-avoid.”
Actress Kris Bernal agreed to Ramos’ assessment, noting that the series could help remind viewers to focus on their own families.
“Parang, they’ll be conscious of their actions and parang to take care–just to focus on your own family and stuff. ‘yun nga to avoid cheating na lang din.”
Kapuso star Mark Herras also favored their show’s goal of helping married couples.
“Okay lang naman, kasi batas ‘yan eh. So, para maging aware din ang lahat. Para maging alam lang din ng mga tao. Parang maiwasan din ‘yung mga problema. Kasi iba na kapag may asawa na, kapag kasal na kayo.”
Kapuso artist Benjamin Alves cited that their series won’t have a story to explore without the revised penal code article.
“I’m in favor of it because if we didn’t have it, we wouldn’t have a show. I’m just saying we can’t explore it if we didn’t have it in the–pretty simple, pragmatic lang naman ang sagot ko.”
Kapuso artist Mike Tan stated his disapproval of Article 247 in the revised penal code, noting that people would often exploit the loopholes of the said law.
“Ang ibig sabihin nun, maraming nag disagree, kasi napaka-raming loophole, especially si Julian at si Claire, lagi nilang minamaximize ‘yung ibig sabihin noong Artikulo 247.”
The inspiration behind the GMA Network legal drama is Article 247 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC; Act 3815), which states that “Death or physical injuries inflicted under exceptional circumstances. – Any legally married person who having surprised his spouse in the act of committing sexual intercourse with another person, shall kill any of them or both of them in the act or immediately thereafter, or shall inflict upon them any serious physical injury, shall suffer the penalty of destierro.”
GMA Network’s riveting legal drama, Artikulo 247 stars Rhian Ramos, Kris Bernal, Benjamin Alves, Mark Herras, Mike Tan, Victor Silayan, Carla Martinez, Denise Barbacena, Rain Matienzo, and Brent Valdez.
Directed by Jorron Lee Monroy, the griping teleserye premiered on March 7 and aired weekdays on GMA Afternoon Prime.
