Why You Should See It:
Would you be able to guess how many incarnations of the popular game show Dingdong Dantes is currently hosting on Kapuso Network?
The answer is–four. GMA will have its second time producing the local edition of the global hit game show.
ABC 5 (now TV5) first aired the show in 2001, with Ogie Alcasid as its game master. GMA Network brought it back in 2008, but this time, the actor-politician Edu Manzano served as host in 2011.
In 2016, ABS-CBN bought the local rights of the show and had Luis Manzano as its game master. Today, the show returned to GMA Network with Kapuso Primetime King, Dingdong Dantes, as the new host.
The new Kapuso incarnation is the official replacement of Willie Revillame’s Wowowin’s vacated the timeslot earlier this month.
Family Feud has simple game mechanics. Two families play against each other in four stages of the show. They try to outsmart each other by guessing the top answers of 100 surveyed people to a question randomly asked by the show.
When a team commits three wrong guesses–the other team gets the chance to answer. If they guessed it correctly–the points will get credited to them.
The team that accumulates the most points after four rounds–will play the jackpot round. If they win, it will double the prize they collected on the first four rounds.
Having an attractive host as Dantes is no longer a bizarre choice for the local version of the show. The award-winning actor is no stranger to hosting, anyway. The show is Dantess’s first time hosting a game show.
Unlike Manzano and Alcasid, cracking jokes is not expected of Dantes. But he does, and aven admirably charmingly and effectively.
That seems to be a working tactic to engage the players and to keep the energy within the still live-audience-free studio, and to Dantes’s credit, it does work.
Questions certainly need to have more variety, which means they need to stop, at least for now, asking questions about what people think about Dingdong Dantes. There is not much to comment about the well-lit studio, and the new theme the show sports is a bop.
Family Feud airs on GMA Network from Mondays to Fridays, just before the network’s flagship primetime newscast, 24 Oras. Watch the official teaser plug below:
