On March 25, TV and radio newscaster Mike Enriquez shared details about his devotion to St. Francis of Assisi.
During the media conference for Enriquez’s return to GMA News, he recalled buying a Franciscan rosary during their trip to Italy.
“This is a Franciscan rosary because St. Francis of Assisi is my favorite saint. Saint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of Italy.
“My wife and I bought this in Assisi because I told my wife early on in our marriage, ‘Babes kahit ipangutang natin ito. Kailangan magpunta tayo sa Assisi.’ And our dream has been fulfilled, not just once, not just twice, but thrice. We’ve been to Assisi three times, and we never get tired of it.”
Enriquez started in the broadcasting business in 1969 when he first worked at the Manila Broadcasting Company. He then became an anchor for several radio shows and news programs.
He evolved into a household name in the media throughout his career.
In 2018, Enriquez underwent a heart bypass surgery, and then he recently went on medical leave to undergo a kidney transplant that required a three-month isolation period.
The news anchor said he returned to newscasting through God’s will.
“Sabi ko nga eh, ‘In God’s perfect timing.’ In God’s perfect time–he willed that I return to work. That I return on air now that kailangan na kailangan.”
He also noted that he prayed hard to be part of GMA Network’s 2022 election coverage.
“This is one of my prayers to the Lord. I kept telling him, ‘Lord, please make me well enough for the election coverage.’ And he answered my prayer. Pinagdasal ko ‘yan. One thing I’ve learned, walang hindi makukuha sa dasal. The power of prayer. Ibang klase talaga.”
The GMA News pillar and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Mike Enrique returned to television and radio just in time for GMA Network’s most comprehensive Eleksyon 2022 coverage.
