Controversial filmmaker Darryl Yap has been warned by the Robredo People’s Council (RPC) Butuan City after he allegedly spread fake news in a recently held campaign rally of Vice President and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo, Monday, March 21.
The warning stemmed after Yap “agreed” with what he saw on Twitter following the successful event of Robredo and her running-mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan that was held in Butuan City earlier on March 9.
The director based his post on netizens who claimed that the rally was “fake” provided that the venue had a fountain, contrary to what was shown in the photos.
Meanwhile, Yap eventually “looked” for the fountain and posted it on his Facebook. However, he, later on, deleted it.
“Nangako na ‘ko sa sarili kong ‘di na ‘ko maghahanap ng swimming pool. Pero talagang tao lang ako,” he wrote in the caption.
The RPC Butuan, through Dianna Demmel, responded by saying, “Hi, Darryl Yap. It’s been more than a week since the very successful Butuan People’s Rally and yet here you are, peddling FAKE NEWS.”
Demmel then showed evidence discrediting the claim of Yap’s “source.” The RPC group apparently put wooden planks near the fountain in Guingona Park to create a platform for the attendees.
She also explained that they covered the fountain to assure safety as well as additional space for Robredo’s supporters.
The director discreetly answered back through another Facebook post.
“NAGTANONG LANG AKO KUNG NASAAN ANG POOL/FOUNTAIN—GALIT NA NAMAN? BAKIT BA KAYO LAGING GALIT? PWEDE NAMAN KAYONG MAGPALIWANAG NANG MAAYOS! Kung bakit kayo matatalo.”
As a result, Demmel warned Yap that if he will not issue an apology, the RPC Butuan will be forced to “take necessary actions.”
“I am encouraging you to issue a correction and to apologize to the organizers of the event. Failure to do so will constrain us to seek appropriate remedies,” she stressed.
Prior to the “missing fountain,” the director also tried to insinuate an issue when he went looking for the Iloilo Sports Complex’s swimming pool in another Robredo-held event in Iloilo City.
