Actress Nadine Lustre was “deglamorized” on her comeback film Greed and on Thursday, March 10, she said it was all part of her plan.
“It is definitely intentional. And I’d like to say that I’m taking my character development or character change—first like real character development into my work also,” she said during the virtual media conference of the psychological-thriller film.
Lustre rose to fame after starring in the 2014 movie Diary ng Panget, including her then-boyfriend James Reid. That same year, she and Reid top-billed Talk Back and You’re Dead, a Wattpad story adapted into a movie.
Known as JaDine, they had an illustrious career as a love team. But the actress wanted to explore other genres rather than be typecasted into having a loveteam or play in a romantic-comedy project.
“Just because ayoko lang na nandoon lang ako palagi. Eventually it gets too repetitive, it could get a bit boring for me as well just because nagawa ko na ‘yan eh,” she reasoned.
Her last movie was with Sam Concepcion in the 2019 movie Indak. From there, she took a hiatus in the acting scene and focused on her music career, releasing her 2020 EP album Wildest Dreams Visual Album.
Dawn of a new Nadine
Greed is the comeback film of the actress after almost a 3-year hiatus. It also symbolizes how Lustre breaks away from the teenage romance-type-of-roles.
“It’s time to do something else, especially me na I’m very adventurous, I love to explore, I like trying new things. So I feel like I wanna do… hindi naman crazy but out of the box. You know, films, and even things. Kumbaga I’m taking that growth with me as well and I’m taking that change with me seriously also. So people will see a different side of me this time around.”
She then addressed the concern that people, especially her fans, may not accept the new her.
“Well with the fans, I know that they’re very very supportive. I know that they love me with whatever it is that I wanna do. But then at the end of the day, it’s more of like I’m really doing it for myself.”
Lustre also would not like to regret not having to go with her gut.
“When I grow older I wanna look back and tell myself na okay I’m proud of the things that I did, I’m glad that I did this, I’m glad I did that. I don’t want to look back and say, ‘Man sana ginawa ko pala ‘yon, sana pala ganito ‘yong…’ ‘di ba? I don’t want to look back and regret not doing the things that I want to do. At the end of the day, I’m putting myself first.”
Greed also includes Diego Loyzaga and Epy Quizon. Direk Yam Laranas direct the movie which is set to be streamed on March 16.
