While the fact Piolo Pascual is its lead star is overwhelming already, there are myriad more reasons why this ‘kilig’-infused and hilarious new situational comedy deserves your attention.
The pilot episode of Cathy Garcia-Molina’s television comeback made a mark. It’s fun, lovely, hilarious, filled with humongous charm, and on top of that, nostalgic as it takes us back to the glory days of good-old Filipino sitcoms. The three leads alone, are a solid invitation, but you bet there are more reasons than one why ‘My Papa Pi’ is a must-watch. Below are just five of those reasons:
It’s Piolo Pascual and Pia Wurtzbach’s first pairing.
The last time Wurtzbach played opposite a very attractive man, it was in 2018’s My Perfect You, where she starred alongside Kapamilya leading man, Gerald Anderson. With My Papa Po, she stars with no other than the Ultimate Heartthrob himself, Piolo Pascual. The chemistry they are going to make is something to look forward to, but the fact they are starring as an item, alone, is already a tantalizing thought.
It marks the first time Cathy Garcia-Molina directed a sitcom.
Having worked her magic in the movie industry for more than two decades, .Garcia-Molina is no stranger in the realm of romcom. My Papa Pi is her first venture to situational comedy, which gives all the more reason to give it a try. Calling it a ‘sweetcom’, the box-office director seems poised to inject her romcom wonder to the project.
It has been two years since ABS-CBN’s last sitcom.
For most Kapamilya viewers, My Papa Pi is a refreshing scene. The last time ABS-CBN had a sitcom in its line-up was two years ago, via the Toni Gonzaga and John Lloyd Cruz-starrer, Home Sweetie Home, which lasted on air for six years. Interestingly, Pascual was also a part of that show, albeit only during its final season. My Papa Pi is Pascual’s first sitcom lead-starrer.
Pepe Herrera shares top-billing roles alongside Pascual and Wurtzbach.
Although we’ve seen Herrera take on the lead in both theater and cinema (he top-billed last year’s ‘Ikaw’, alongside Janine Gutierrez), My Papa Pi marks the talented comedian’s first time as a lead star of a television series.
The cast is comprised of seasoned and up-and-coming stars alike.
While the love triangle of Herrera, Pascual, and Wurtzbach, will ensure the lethal dosages of humor and kilig for the audiences, strong comic support from both seasoned stars and newcomers, are guaranteed to provide contagious hilarious energy as well. Joross Gamboa, Katya Santos, Frenchie Dy, Hubz Azarcon, Anthony Andres, Daniela Stranner, Anthonny Jennings, Alora Sassam, Quincy Villanueva, and Madam Inutz, make up the series’ brilliant cast.
