After pulling off its highest TV rating yet, since it went against ‘First Lady’–the six-year-old Kapamilya series appears to have reclaimed its domination over its time slot.
ABS-CBN primetime dramas may have maintained a strong command online. However, on free television, the lead undoubtedly belongs to GMA Network.
That said, two of ABS-CBN’s TV series have been posing a serious threat to their respective Kapuso rival shows, and that is despite ABS-CBN programs’ still limited free TV presence.
Online, both FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and The Broken Marriage Vow are in full control of their respective timeslots, as both shows posted record-breaking concurrent live viewers on Kapamilya Online Live, on YouTube. Early last month, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano set another record on Kapamilya Online Live, when the show attracted more than 172,000 concurrent live viewers. That was enough to erase its previous record which it held for nearly three months. The said record-breaking episode featured the Presidential Debate between the show’s major villains, Renato Hipolito (John Arcilla) and First Lady Lily Hidalgo (Lorna Tolentino). It’s a nod to the current election season, which pits presidential aspirants among each other in various political debates.
This week, the story shifts to Cardo Dalisay and his group, as they plan to kidnap President Hidalgo (Rowell Santiago) and Madam Lily. However, it can be recalled that the guy currently projected to be the President isn’t Oscar Hidalgo whom the Taskforce Aguila knows. The real one has been on the run, with Ambo (Nonong Balinan) and Elisabeth (Whitney Tyson) assisting him. The current story arc also teases the highly-anticipated union of the real President with Aurora (Sharon Cuneta), with whom he was previously betrothed and had a child.
According to AGB Nielsen’s National Urban TV Measurement (NUTAM) overnight data, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, posted a combined TV rating of 12.0% on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. That’s 1.6% short of matching First Lady’s 13.6%, which is the highest rating earned by a TV drama that day. It’s interesting to note, however, that the Kapuso drama airs on different time slots on GMA Network and GTV. Without GTV, where the First Yaya sequel airs at a much later time slot, First Lady will have a slightly lower combined TV rating.
That means, it is possible that FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano already claimed the leadership over its time slot from its Kapuso rival, which prevailed in the rating game, since its debut late last month.
First Lady has been so far failing to duplicate the success of its predecessor, First Yaya, which peaked at a 24% AGB Nielsen NUTAM rating during its 2021 airing. FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, on the other hand, is yet to set a new record-high rating on its time slot, but it’s worth noting that the show was able to become the number one drama again, on February 1, this year, with a lower 11.8% rating. The highest TV rating earned by the Kapamilya show is 13.0%, which it earned on August 26, 2021.
