On February 23, Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson answered why he remained with ABS-CBN despite the network’s shutdown.
During the Kapamilya Strong 2022 media conference, Anderson compared ABS-CBN to a family going through tough times when the network shut down, reiterating the Kapamilya network’s resiliency.
“Kumbaga pamilya na ‘to. Di ba? Kapag may nangyari sa bahay mo, kunyari hindi kayo nakapagbayad ng rent sa bahay niyo, hindi naman kayo maghihiwalay bilang pamilya.
“Sama-sama pa rin kayo. Malalagpasanan niyo ‘yun ng magkasama. Lilipat kayo ng bahay pero magkasama pa rin kayo. Alam mo ‘yun, hindi kayo maghihiwalay. You stick together, doon mate-test talaga ‘yung resilience niyo bilang pamilya.”
He then highlighted the relationships he formed in Star Magic and the Kapamilya Network throughout his years in showbiz.
“Siguro more than a project, it’s the moments, the relationships, the friendships na nabubuo on set or kasama ‘yung Star Magic family namin. pag mag mo-mall show kami sa out of town. Pag ako laging may side trip, magri-river rafting kami, or pupunta kami dito, i-explore namin ‘yung city.
“So for the last 16 years ‘yun ‘yung highlight ko because the relationships that you build with these people na very passionate din sa trabaho nila. ‘Yun din ‘yung looking back now, on the stage here, parang ‘yun ‘yung moments na lagi mong maaalala.”
“‘Yung ups and downs in my life, in my career, sila din ang nakakasama ko. I get strength from them.”
Anderson then shared his advice to young artists who want to enter showbiz, noting that he tries to set an example of kindness and professionalism.
“Ako ‘yung tipong gusto kong mag-set ng example na when you come to the set, dapat professional ka. Dapat ready ka. pero more than anything always have kindness.
“Kasi hindi biro ‘yung set, hindi biro ‘yung mga pinagdadaanan, lalo na ngayon sa mga tapings namin ngayon na naka-lock in, ang layo sa pamilya, apat–limang araw na dirediretso na taping. Pero, wag ding kalimutan na lahat ng tao pagod eh. So always have kindness sa camera man, sa utility.”
Anderson joined ten other Kapamilyas in renewing their commitment to serving the Filipino through their contract renewal with Star Magic during the Kapamilya Strong event on February 23.
Joining Anderson are Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Gary Valenciano, Zanjoe Marudo, Erich Gonzales, Jake Cuenca, Jolina Magdangal, Loisa Andalio, Sam Milby, and Shaina Magdayao.
