On March 16, celebrity friends Gelli de Belen-Rivera, Carmina Villaroel, and Candy Pangilinan shared how they found true friendship while being in showbiz.
During the media conference for Viva One’s Oomph Podcast Network–de Belen-Rivera, Villaroel-Legaspi, and Pangilinan discussed what made their friendship lasting.
Carmina said they’re lucky to have found each other while working in the entertainment industry.
“I believe kahit hindi naman artista, kahit wala sa showbiz, mahirap talaga maghanap ng tunay na kaibigan. I’m just very lucky, very thankful na nakahanap ako ng totoong kaibigan sa industry namin.”Â
She then attributed their long-lasting friendship to acceptance, trust, love, and respect.
“It’s because of acceptance. Para sa akin ‘yung acceptance ng bawat ugali ng isa’t isa. Syempre importante na nagja-jive kayo no, na swak talaga kayo. Kasi ‘yung ‘yung pinaka ano–pag may nakilala kayong tao medyo off na kaagad. Ito talaga umpisa pa lang nag-jive na.Â
“Siyempre kasama na ‘yung respect trust and pagmamahal. In any relationship naman boyfriend, girlfriend, friendship, or mag-asawa o ano, importante talaga ang pagmamahal, tiwala at respeto. Acceptance.”
Gelli added that they all reciprocated the true friendship they felt with each other.
“More than finding a true friend, you have to be a true friend yourself no. So feeling ko, parang binabalik lang naman sa akin ni Candy at ni Carmina kung ano din naman ang ibinibigay ko. At ibinabalik ko din naman sa kanila kung ano ‘yung binibigay nila sa akin.
“So parang ganon ‘yun eh. Hanap ka lang ng totoong tao na gusto mag-share at iexpress ang sarili niya ng totoo. ‘Yun lang. Nagkataon lang na we we’re blessed na we found each other. Akala mo love story. Totoo naman eh.”
She also noted that they all have similar interests as artists and people.
“Parang totoo din ‘yung mga birds of the same feather, flock together, so kung ano ‘yung mga interest namin, kung ano ‘yung mga–things that are essential to us, to myself, syempre you are drawn likewise. So feeling ko ganon na lang ‘yung nangyari.”
Candy continued saying their dlique gelled together throughout the years.
“Ang nangyari kasi sa akin different ang naging close ako. First, kay Gelli because of Sarah Jane. Eventually, naging close ako kay Carmina, tapos naging close ako kay ate Janice kasi siya si Flordeluna. So ayun nagsama-sama na. Tapos eventually parang nagsasama-sama kami, close kami ganon lang ka-simple. Magge-gel lang talaga eh.”
Carmina, Gelli, and Candy have been friends since the ’90s Defunct Comedy Gag Show, Tropang Trumpo.
Now Carmina, Gelli, and Candy host their podcast, Wala Pa Kaming Title, with Janice de Belen, wherein they talk about any topic under the sun.Â
