Following its return to TV5 last Sunday, March 27, ABS-CBN’s movie block, FPJ: Da King emerged as the highest-rated movie block on Philippine television.
You don’t call Fernando Poe Jr. ‘Da King’ for nothing, and indeed, the so-called King of Philippine Cinema reigns supreme, even on television. Last Sunday, March 27, the digitally-restored version of the 2000 film Ayos Na Ang Kasunod, became FPJ: Da King’s opening salvo. Directed by Boots Plata and written by Pablo S. Gomez, who are both cinema legends, the film also starred Ara Mina as Poe’s leading lady. The ensemble cast also included Berting Labra, Jaime Fabregas, Romy Diaz, Jimmy Santos, Pacquito Diaz, Tiya Pusit, Candy Pangilinan, and Maritoni Fernandez.
According to AGB Nielsen’s National Urban TV Measurement (NUTAM) data, FPJ: Da King emerged as the rating leader among all movie blocks airing on different TV channels, on weekends (March 26 and March 27). FPJ: Da King rated 4.0%, its highest in the last seven months.
FPJ: Da King beat its rival Kapuso show, GMA Blockbusters, which rated 3.6% on the same day. The Kapamilya movie block is also notably ahead of GMA Network’s morning movie block, Kapuso Movie Festival, which airs before All-Out Sundays, on noontime. The Kapuso movie presentation managed to rate 3.8%. It’s worth noting, however, that GMA Network has a wider nationwide coverage in comparison to A2Z and TV5 combined.
Other movie blocks airing on weekends also failed to grab the leadership from the now stronger, FPJ: Da King. GTV’s Block Screening and Siesta Movies, managed to get only 2.7% and 2%, respectively. House of Asia’s Action Flicks and Feel Na Films, on the other hand, delivered 1.8% and 1.4%, respectively.
The last time the Kapamilya program aired on TV5 was in August 2021, or seven months ago. More restored versions of FPJ’s classic films are expected to make their way to the program in its coming movie presentations.
Watch FPJ: Da King on Kapamilya Channel on cable, and TV5 and A2Z on free TV, right after ASAP Natin ‘To, at 2:00 PM.
