Why You Should See It:
Murder plays a propulsive force in this gripping legal drama. It takes a curious focus on a now-repealed article of the revised penal code.
It states, “Any legally married person who having surprised his spouse in the act of committing sexual intercourse with another person, shall kill any of them or both of them in the act or immediately thereafter, or shall inflict upon them any serious physical injury, shall suffer the penalty of destierro (banishment).”
When Klaire Almazan (Kris Bernal) caught her husband Alfred (Victor Silayan) cheating on her, she ended up murdering him.
To escape from ending behind bars, she invokes Article 247, allowing her to get away with the crime.
Artikulo 247 serves as Bernal’s comeback project to GMA Network, after appearing on TV5’s family drama, Paano ang Pasko/Pangako? last year.
Sporting her interesting, but potentially disorienting new look that tells you she definitely needs to eat more, Bernal seems all-poised to deliver her best performance yet.
Her Klaire is powerful and properly motivated, although there’s a need to shake up her emotional spectrum, as it is largely limited to anger and irritation. Rhian Ramos’s Jane, on the other hand, is modest and calm, although it’s easy to see the fighter she harbors inside her, which she may readily allow to the surface once her rivalry with Klaire escalates.
The series tackles infidelity, but it’s easy to tell it won’t be where most of the proceedings will be revolving around. This is also a crime and legal drama, after all, which gives more than one reason to invest interest in this promising offer by GMA Network.
Interestingly, the series premiere just comes on the heels of another crime drama, Widow’s Web, which debuted on GMA Network’s Telebabad block a week earlier.
Based on the first few episodes of the series, it’s not that difficult to see its promise to keep its intensity and intrigue, although one must be also cautious not to get their hopes too high, as Kapuso series, or local dramas in general, tend to eventually get convoluted later on.
Be that it may, GMA Network has been noticeably fond of short-lived dramas lately, so writers don’t get the burden of being obliged to stretch original plot lines.
Artikulo 247, airs on GMA Network’s Afternoon Prime block, on Mondays to Fridays.
