On March 22, The CompanY members Annie Quintos and Moy Ortiz shared their thoughts on celebrities expressing their political affiliations during the media conference for their album launch for Gitna.
Quintos and Ortiz echoed their fellow members OJ Mariano and Sweet Plantado in highlighting the importance of voicing their political stands.
“I think that /they both said it perfectly, and I really want to say na it’s bigger than us kasi. It’s really for our children, for our family, and for our country,” said Quintos.
“I agree! They all said it, but totally agree,” Ortiz added.
Quintos then recounted her experience as an artist during the campaign season, clarifying that most politicians already knew their political affiliations.
“Ako, I really didn’t know of that, but fortunately, they already knew of our colors. I don’t know if many have asked or if there are many. But they knew our colors from the very start.”
Ortiz then talked about celebrities receiving offers from politicians during the campaign season.
“There are other ways–there are other means to make a living, to earn money–there are other ways naman.
“Money is tight now. Even for the richest people now, money is tight now. Eh pano na lang tayo na hindi part ng one percent.”
He then emphasized valuing their conscience as artists over earning money through questionable means.
“Pero, ‘yun nga to follow up with what my singing partner said. Can you live with yourself after having done that, when you know that you could earn that amount, kahit hindi isang bagsakan. You can eventually earn that. It’s about living our conscience.”
The CompanY, including Annie Quintos, OJ Mariano, Moy Ortiz, and Sweet Plantado, performed at the Bicol leg of VP Leni Robredo’s campaign rally to show support for their presidential bet.
As for their music, the quartet recently released a 10-track album called Gitna. The collection of multi-genre songs that features the group’s harmony is currently available on all streaming platforms.
The music video for the carrier single of their album premieres on March 25 at 8 PM on Star Music’s YouTube channel.
