Amanda Coling and Tina Wells shared their thoughts on why Filipinos should talk about their sexual choices and own up their sexuality at the media conference for Viva One’s Oomph Podcast Network on March 16.
Coling stated that society conditioned Filipinos not to talk about their sexual choices despite being highly sexual.
“Reserved ‘yung mga Pinoy, ‘yun ‘yung pinapakita nila but I feel like ang dami ring Pinoy talaga na highly sexual pero hindi lang nila mapakita sa society. They’re not accepting it, they’re not honing it, kasi sa society, sa Philippines, medyo kinondition tayo na na dapat conservative ka, wag kang ganto, wag kang magdamit ng sexy.Â
“Eh paano kung gusto mo ‘yun. What if you want to explore your sexuality? What if you really want to do things? Ba’t ka pa nabuhay sa mundong ‘to kung hindi magagawa ‘yung gusto mo di ba?”
She amended that Filipina women should be able to talk about their sexual choices with no judgment, apologies, or shame.
“‘Yung sex life ng Pinoy na mas dapat pinag-uusapan. More of sexual choices, na gusto mo talaga and with no apology. Walang shame, walang guilt, and walang apology you do what you want to do.”
Wells added Filipina women should accept their sexuality while being a conservative country.
“I think it’s important to talk about yung how our Filipina women, kung paano nila i-a-accept being conservative, and still being sexual and embracing their sexuality.”
She added that Filipinos should accept their sexual nature but remain responsible for it.
“Sexual energy is one of the most /powerful and most moving energy anywhere. As human beings, we have to accept na mayroon tayo non. We are sexual beings [and] we have to own it. But we have to use it in a way na we’re not going to have regret. Be free! Own it. If you love sex, just/ be responsible about it.”
