This year, vivo launched their new Y-series in the market, the Y21T.
The Y-Series targets budget-conscious users, who want to get the best value for their money. It is the entry-level category.
It is centered on their budget segment. Vivo claims this as a budget gaming phone. Let us check how did the device perform and find out what this gaming phone can offer.
INSIDE THE BOX.
Inside the box, the Y21T unit with a screen protector installed warranties and manual paper, a Type -C cable, 18W power brick, pin injector, and free jelly cover case.
DESIGN.
The vivo Y21T has an attractive and shiny back cover that can capture your attention. It is made of glossy polycarbonate material. It changes color with glare when moved at different angles. Not only that, but it is 8.00 mm thin in a 2.5D body. There is a triple camera at the back that is slightly sticking out. I like the squarish design camera module and printed with 50MP in the left corner. However, since it is glossy, it is prone to fingerprint smudges.
On the front, here you can find a teardrop hole shape notch where the front camera is located, with slim bezels surrounding the screen, but a slightly broad chin. On the right side of the device, you’ll find the volume and power button. The power button also acts as a fingerprint scanner which is accurate and fast.
At the top, there is a sim card tray that houses the two nano sim cards and micro-SD for storage expansion. Over the bottom, there is the UBS Type -C port for a 3.5 mm headphone jack, speaker grilles, and a microphone hole.
Holding the devices feels so comfortable. You can feel the side edges that fit your hands. The vivo Y21T design looks premium and fun with fresh eye-catching colors.
DISPLAY.
The device sports a 6.51 inch (16.54 cm) Halo Full view IPS LCD.
It is good and enough for normal usage. Great for video watching and display color is strong enough and accurate. Still, you have the option to set or adjust the color temperature in the settings. It has vivo eye protection and intelligent brightness adjustment technology.
Wishing that it has a 90Hz refresh rate since today’s era is more focused on the refresh rate. But, I do understand since this is their budget segment.
Audio quality is considerable, as it has only a single speaker, which is good for call and music. Applying or setting it to maximum volume will affect the sound quality. Thankfully, it has the headphone jack to use as an alternative.
CAMERA.
We have a triple camera setup with a 50MP main, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth in the back. For selfies, there is an 8MP in front. It supports Super night mode, HDR, bokeh, macro, AI Face beauty, Video Time Lapse.
Images captured are not perfect, but it gets the job done when capturing them in good light. Daytime shots produce detailed and vibrant colors.
When it comes to a portrait shot, I think there is a need for improvement, bokeh and blur effect is hardly separating the subject and the background.
Low lights shot is not the best as it looks muddy, luckily there is a Super night mode feature to help in a dark environment.
For selfie shots, images captured looked considerable and had acceptable decent details and colors. I can’t see the difference when using the AI beauty mode. I think there is, so it looks slightly better. It makes the skin smooth and brightens your face.
As for the video, the vivo Y21T can shoot up to a maximum of 1080p at 30fps or 720p at 60fps in the back while in front it only has the 30fps option with 1080p/720p resolution. Stabilization requires an improvement, but the quality is good enough for normal use.
SOFTWARE.
Running the device is FunTouch OS 12 based on Android 11. There’s a lot of customization in the settings, with numerous features that you can play with. I love the way how the software feature is organized under the settings such as app drawer option, navigation keys or gestures, Face wake, Easyshare , AI Editor, and Multi Turbo 5.0.
The downside is that there are lots of bloatware preinstalled. The vivo Y21T has a unique home launcher which they called Jovi Home. There is a feature called Ultra-Game Mode where you can enhance your gaming experience in which you can set to an Esports, Game in picture, 4D game vibration, blocking notifications, and accidental touch prevention.
PERFORMANCE.
Y21t equips a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset, that has an octa-core CPU, Adreno 610 GPU allowing you to view graphics faster in higher quality with stronger performance.
The device has 4 GB RAM with 1 GB RAM extended and 128 GB ROM or internal storage for smooth operation and switch over multiple apps. Using the device is excellent in basic tasks such as browsing, reading, interacting in social media apps, and watching videos. Keep in mind that there is a slight glitch when using more and switching between apps.
Speaking about gaming, playing light games is all good. Heavier games are playable with minor stutters in gameplay. Don’t expect the device to have a buttery smooth experience when playing. Using the Ultra-Game Mode feature can help the device run the game in acceptable experience and performance.
BATTERY.
The vivo Y21T has the connection for modern standards including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS.
The battery of the device has a massive 5000mah capacity with 18W fast charging power brick plus it has a vivo Energy Guardian (VEG) technology to help lessen power consumption without lowering performance. Using the device can last around a day or two on moderate usage.
The vivo Y21T battery life is enough for all-day usage. Charging the device to full percentage, took us around an hour and 30 minutes.
CONCLUSION.
vivo Y21T has an attractive and trendy design that you can show to others with a fashion style. It has a good set of cameras and an impressive battery life. Decent performance is what you would expect on this device. The display is bearable and has a good color reproduction. The phone’s price is at PHP 10,999. The vivo Y21T is a solid daily driver.
