Kapamilya singer Yeng Constantino shared her experience of Cancel Culture during the music release interview of Paliwanag on February 16, 2022.
Constantino admitted that she suffered mentally and emotionally because of the bashing she encountered.
“Ako nakaranas talaga ako ng bashing. I really suffered mentally, emotionally, kaya nag-delete ako ng Instagram ko, ng Vlogs ko. Kasi mahirap talaga when you make a mistake, at that time, you feel strongly talaga na it’s right, tapos mare-realize mo mali.”
She also listed some extreme examples of bashings she encountered when she experienced Cancel Culture.
“Sobrang nakaka-destroy ng mental health. It’s not–hindi ‘yun biro, mga death threats, sobrang uungkatin ‘yung buhay mo at hihimayin ka na parang isang laruan, parang hindi ka isang nilalang, hindi ka isang tao. Napakahirap.”
Her experience made her cautious when voicing opinions on social media.
“So now, I’m very careful, kaya hindi ako masyadong nagpe-preach about that na ako din may natutunan ako about it. So I’m being very careful.”
Constantino also imparted her advice to artists who are afraid of Cancel Culture but want to voice their opinions.
“‘Yun din ‘yung tinuro sa akin ng tatay ko. If we have something important to say, say it. Pero ako din, ayaw ko din naman maging super preachy na ‘hoy magsalita kayo’ kasi I know what it feels like to be bashed.”
She mostly encouraged young artists to take their time in weighing the impact of their opinions before voicing it out to the public.
“Pero kung hindi ka at peace, mayroon ka pa ring fear. At times, step back ka muna, pag-isipan mo ‘to, hinga-hinga ka muna ng malalim. Tama ba ‘to, pag-isipan mo ng tatlong gabi, hindi ka makatulog. You feel ‘yung sense of justice mo, you want to speak out then do so.”
In 2019, Constantino became a target of Cancel Culture when she posted her vlog ranting about the medical service they received from a hospital.
As for her latest single, Constantino collaborates with Pinoy rapper Gloc-9 in the new single Paliwanag, arranged by Thyro Alfaro. The song under Universal Records streams on February 18, 2022, on all digital platforms.
