The movie came on the heels of the success of the group’s first film, Sige…Ihataw Mo in 1994.
Back in the ‘90s, dancing boy groups were a big deal in the local entertainment scene. Many of them achieved celebrity status and went on to star even in the movies. Popular ’90s dance groups, e.g., Streetboys, The Manoeuvres, and Universal Motion Dancers (UMD) are among those groups.
In Universal Motion Dancers’ case, movie production studios took advantage of their massive popularity to produce films. Sige…Ihataw Mo opened in cinemas on April 14, 1994, while Ibigay Mo Ng Todong Todo opened on August 23, 1995. Both films are collaborative productions of Regal Films and Universal Records.
UMD is composed of Wowie de Guzman, James Salas, Jim Salas, Gerry Oliva, Marco McKinley, and Norman Santos. They are known for doing dance covers of popular hits songs, including Always by Erasure, Stars by Simply Red, Macarena by Los del Rio, Dying Inside by Timmy Thomas, How Gee by Black Machine, and Close To You by Whitfield, while Manoeuvres is known for their dance and Tubthumping by Chumbawamba. At the height of the group’s popularity, Wowie de Guzman was fast becoming a popular TV and movie star via the phenomenal TV series, Mara Clara.
In Ibigay Mo Ng Todo Todo, the UMD boys played as senior high schoolers who live under one roof under the care of Mrs. Nancy Pakis (Nova Villa). Before their graduation, Mrs. Pakis took the boys and their girlfriends on a beach vacation, but the boys got lost along the way and stumbled upon the eerie town of Sta. Barbara. After getting into a rumble with a group of armed men at a restaurant, the boys sought the help of Mang Mando (Ray Ventura), who revealed to them that the town is being held with a tight grip by a Mondragon family, who engage in criminal activities. Mang Mando also revealed that the Mondragon family is responsible for the murder and rape of his late wife.
The restaurant rumble resulted in the accidental death of one of the members of the powerful Mondragon clan, which prompted its patriarch, played by Bob Soler, to get the whole town cordoned and to launch an intensive shoot-to-kill manhunt. The boys ended up helping Mang Mando in exacting his revenge against the Mondragons, while they are also fighting their lives to defeat death.
