TV5 tried to make the glory of ‘80s and ‘90s teen dramas a comeback to mainstream entertainment through this Joyce Bernal-helmed series.
There is a time when TV5 was doing a hefty load of original works, on its own, before it welcomed block time partners to fill its programming line up, in the last few years. Original and hit non-scripted shows, like Wow Mali, Tropang Trumpo, Sing Galing, were real chart-toppers.
There were also memorable fictional shows, including drama series and sitcoms, that carried the network’s time blocks. Lipgloss and Midnight DJ are some of those shows, and there are also several primetime dramas, headlined by TV5’s exclusive talents.
Before her shift to ABS-CBN and eventual return to TV5 via the noon-time show, Lunch Out Loud, Alex Gonzaga was among TV5’s fast-rising stars. She even starred in her TV shows, including primetime dramas.
In 2010, Gonzaga was part of the Network’s new youth-oriented series, BFGF. The social media star starred in the show, alongside Cally Lily frontman and actor Kean Cipriano, who was then was also trying his luck in the world of acting.
BFGF aired on TV5’s Sunday afternoon line-up at 4:00 pm from April 11, 2010 to January 30, 2011.
It had a total 43 episodes spanning three seasons. The series revolved around the young Bisaya, Claring (Gonzaga), who went to Manila to become a nanny and to fulfill her dreams of becoming a flight attendant. In her quest, she met different personalities, including Prince Kean (Cipriano), with who she inevitably became smitten.
BFGF featured an ensemble cast of mostly young actors, which included Pio, Chris Cayzer, Nico Ibaviosa, Cyrus Desamprado, Lousie de los Reyes, John Manalo, Diane Medina, JR de Guzman, Alyana Asistio, Anyka Asistio, Angelo Patrimonio, Ramon Christopher, Ramon Christoper, Tuesday Vargas, Teri Aunor, and Alwyn Uytingco. Callalily sang the show’s original soundtrack, which was released as a studio album in August 2010.
