Julia Barretto shared on Tuesday, February 22 that she never experienced any type of bullying while in high school.
“Fortunately, thank God, I never experienced any type of bullying in high school. she said during the virtual media conference for her upcoming series The Seniors.
Barretto pointed out that the real bullying happened outside of school.
“I think the bullying comes in real life, in the outside world, outside of high school.”
Barretto then added, “Matatag tayo, matapang tayong pinalaki kaya hindi tayo nagpatalo sa mga bullies.”
Going into senior year, however, the actress missed the opportunity of being a normal high schooler due to her career.
“Ako po kasi yung senior year ko, naka-home school program na rin po ako. So I can’t say na I had a normal senior year.”
Barretto felt lucky despite coming from a showbiz clan, she found people who did not treat her like some sort of celebrity.
“I’m lucky because I was… yung experience ko naman sa school I was really surrounded with good people. Until now friends ko pa rin sila and they never made me feel any superiorness or… they kept me grounded actually. I was glad I was able to experience normal schooling for a time because that humbled me and kept my feet on the ground,” explained the actress.
Finishing her secondary education was also an achievement not just for her, but also for her mother, Marjorie.
“When I re-entered the industry, I remember my mom asking me for one thing. Hiniling niya lang sa akin was to please finish high school. So I think the day that I graduated, I think I would say that was my most memorable moment in my senior year. Being able to graduate and natupad ko ang wish ni mommy,” she expressed.
The Seniors also stars Ella Cruz, Awra Briguela, and newbie Andrea Babierra. It is directed by Shaira Advincula and produced by Direk Antoinette Jadaone and Dan Villegas.
The original series will premiere on Vivamax, on March 20.
