After introducing Yanna (Angelica Panganiban) as The Goodbye Girl, the series shifts to Mara (Loisa Andalio), who keeps getting broken up with. She finally gets the feeling that someone will stay with her when she meets Gab (Ronnie Alonte), a film director.
Fast-forward to three months later, however, she learns he’s just the same as her past relationships, which eventually ended after just a while.
This episode explores Yanna’s continuous recovery from the heartbreak caused by his husband’s departure. Jeff (JC de Vera) remains in pursuit of making her agree to sign up with the book deal he offers. Yanna seems on the verge of saying ‘yes’. When Mara unintentionally unloads her emotions and heartache to a stranger, she finds the resolve to move forward and give herself a break, the freedom to explore her life outside her failed relationships.
Chemistry is very rare when it comes to reel-to-real partnerships such as Andalio and Alonte. But here, it’s not a concern they need to resolve, as much of the story is focused on Mara, alone. Andalio exudes charm when she takes on her character, although she could have been more tangible if this episode is a bit longer. We’ll see if the rest of the series will allow us to see the transformed version of her character, as the series promises to feature recurring characters from time to time.
That said, ‘The Clueless Girl’ gets its point pretty much across. A relationship is a two-way road, and love is something you have to give yourself first before you can give it to others. It’s a reminder that more than anyone, it’s ourselves whom we need to be good to the most.
