Several social media personalities and netizens can’t help but react to the ‘transferrable wound’ of presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
On Saturday, February 19, Marcos Jr went viral on social media after he was caught on video snubbing some of his supporters who wanted to shake hands with him.
Marcos Jr. was in a campaign motorcade in Caloocan when the incident happened.
The video quickly went viral on social media causing the Marcos Jr camp to immediately come up with a ‘damage control’ act.
In his statement on Sunday, February 20, Marcos Jr’s spokesman Atty. Vic Rodriguez said the presidential candidate was not avoiding handshakes during the campaign sortie but is merely protecting his wounded arm.
Along with his statement, Rodriguez also shared a photo of Marcos Jr. with gauze on his left wrist.
However, observant netizens pointed out that it was Marcos’s right hand that was pulled by the supporters and not the left.
In his tweet, former IATF adviser Dr. Tony Leachon advised the Marcos camp to check their release cause apparently, it was the right hand that was pulled by the supporter contrary to the released photo where the wound was on his left.
“BBM ‘s right wrist was the one apparently pulled by a fan not the left wrist… Please check.”

Theatre actor Audie Gemora also mocked Marcos Jr camp’s press release by sharing a comics strip showing the disparity of the actual incident to their damage control.

Fr. Ian Gabinete meanwhile jokingly asked if wounds are transferable. He also added that maybe the wound also had its caravan on Marcos Jr’s body.
“Wait. Lumilipat pala ang sugat? Pati sugat nagka-caravan sa katawan? Amazing”

@alterJUPA also reacted saying Marcos camp is clearly lying cause they showed the wrong wrist.
“they even showed the WRONG wrist!!! kanan yung sa video while kaliwa yung nasa news kaloka”

@macoyestrella meanwhile mirrored the image to fit to their narrative about the wound to explain the snubbing of a handshake.
“O ayan, kanang kamay na! Dami nyong issue kung kaliwa o kanan!”

@robbiePadilla9, on the other hand, suggested that Marcos should just put bandage on both hands to avoid questions from netizens.
“Dalawang kamay na kse lagyan mo ng bandage para di na sila magtanong bakit kanan o kaliwa”

@prinzmagtulis meanwhile, criticized the media for taking Marcos Jr’s explanation at face value. Magtulis said it can be easily verifiable, given the inconsistencies or they shouldn’t have reported it at all.
“I mean, I can easily put a gauze on my wrist right now and reenact this. C’mon. These things need be verified first before reporting. If it can’t be verified, then at least say it in the story or don’t report it at all.”

Meanwhile, following the push back from netizens with regard to the wound narrative, Atty. Vic Rodriguez came up with another explanation on why the wound is on the left wrist while the right hand was the one pulled by the supporters.
According to Rodriguez it was probably Marcos Jr’s reflex which is normal when a person is either pinched or bruised.
“Normal na reaksyon ‘yun pag ikaw ay nakurot ‘di ba? Normal na reaksyon ‘yun pag ikaw ay nagalusan, or medyo napiga ‘yung kamay eh instinct ‘yun eh. Kahit kanino mo gawin ‘yun, instinct mo ‘yun, para kang nagulat but it doesn’t mean anything,” Rodriguez said.
