Sid Lucero revealed on Friday, January 28, that his character in Vivamax sexy-drama film Silip Sa Apoy was derived from his personal experience of abuse.
He plays Ben, the abusive and violent partner of Emma (Angeli Khang).
“I’ve experienced this. I grew up in a house that’s really violent when I was younger, and those things stick. At the same time, that hit me. It’s really hard to raise a hand especially at females, it’s really difficult for me,” he said during the movie’s virtual media conference.
The actor’s father was Mark Gil, who passed away in 2014, at the age of 52.
“When I was growing up with my dad, he had issues and it came out, and of course, it affected the marriage and us, the kids,” he recalled.
Doing the abuse scenes, Lucero admitted his cast members made it easier for him to play his character.
However, he struggled to take it out of his system, making it harder for him to sleep at night.
“Even though it’s really ugly, and it’s gonna… especially at night after a scene like that, it’s really hard to sleep. Because some things aren’t really directed and are not written so it must come from a dark place.”
Because forms of abuse happen in every home, he took it as his responsibility to portray his character “the way it should be played.”
“I think it is also my responsibility to play it as honest as I could. Because it also represents not just the evil in our world but it also represents the kinds of lives of some of our women, our children, and some of our people go through at home.”
Silip Sa Apoy is about an unhappy housewife who plays with fire after falling in love with her neighbor.
The movie is now available for streaming on Vivamax.
