On Wednesday, February 2, working with his girlfriend in the upcoming limited series The Goodbye Girl puts some pressure on musician Rico Blanco who just made his acting comeback.
“In terms of pressure, siguro ano lang kasi medyo matagal na yung last time that I acted. I know na si Maris medyo hasa,” he admitted during the show’s virtual media conference.
Blanco explained as a fan of her work–he also criticized Racal’s acting performance.
“I’m a fan of her work objectively speaking as an actress and I tell her all the time. Kasi I’m very honest especially the closer you are to me I’m more honest to you. So when she does well, I really tell her. So alam ko na hasa siya kumbaga.”
He was also nervous since his last acting project was the 2016 movie Camp Sawi.
“Then ako, kinakabahan ako no’ng start. Sabi ko, ‘Baka nagbago na. Nagbago na ba yung language sa set? I’m sure yung technology nagbago na, yung ilaw, mga lente, mga camera.'”
Apart from the pressure he felt returning to acting, the former Rivermaya vocalist was also excited to make his comeback.
“It’s good to be back. I’m not ashamed to say na all these years I love to act,” he expressed.
He became known for his role in the 2010 series Imortal.
When asked to compare the difference between his Lucas character to that of his The Goodbye Girl part, he pointed this out:
“I think kasi bawat… yung roles ko dati iba-iba no? I think sa Imortal was like medyo mabigat ‘di ba? It had to be mabigat for me to change my being.
“Ako para sa akin analogy ‘yon eh na parang nagbago ang pagkatao dahil kinain talaga ako. So it was very heavy and it’s parang out of this world. But a lot of it is real.
“Ito, this one is parang surreal kasi it’s not exaggerated and it is so everyday yung mga situations. So yun ang difference.”
The musician, however, stressed that it all depends on how he plays a certain role.
“But I think deep inside pareho lang din ‘yon na nago-operate eh. There’s always a human being, serious about living his life, in any character I play, that’s how I approach it.”
The Goodbye Girl is led by Angelica Panganiban and JC de Vera. It also includes Loisa Andalio, Barbie Imperial, Elisse Joson, RK Bagatsing, Joshua Colet, Ronnie Alonte, and Turs Daza.
The series is based on the book with the same title by Noreen Capili. It is directed by Derick Cabrido, with Dreamscape Entertainment and Clever Minds co-producing it.
Watch the limited series on iWantTFC this coming February 14.
