Why You Should See It:
Following weeks of non-stop revelations and confrontations, the rivalry between the Chans finally comes to an end in Family Fortune, albeit with some bitter losses and sacrifices along the way. The first installment of the Mano Po Legacy ends on a high note, providing Regal Entertainment with one good reason to extend the new franchise.
Steffi (Barbie Forteza) has finally secured the files that contain information on Valerie’s (Maricel Laxa) misdeeds inside Chan’s business empire. She is now on the run and is now trying to flee from the country, but her son, Jameson (Nikki Co) goes daringly after Steffi to hunt her down. Joseph (Rob Gomez) and Anton (David Licauco) come to her rescue. A brawl ends with Jameson getting shot while Valerie inevitably gets apprehended.
Steffi and Joseph finally had the chance to explore their budding romance, and Anton becomes brave enough to accept he is yet to figure out who and what he [really] wants. However, while ‘Family Fortune’ ends the chapter happily for the Chans, new sinister threats are on the horizon. It means vengeance waiting to return.
Family Fortune is a 40-episode miniseries, and it needs to keep a pace that allows all crucial story development to transpire within a limited period. Judging how the series ended, there is still that satisfying feeling despite the lack of momentum leading to the final week. While it felt it took the series a while to pick up in pace and heat, the number of revelations and confrontations during its finale week felt enough to compensate where it lacks.
