Presidential aspirants Lily Ann Hidalgo and Renato Hipolito try to outsmart each other at a presidential debate they both attend in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano continues to reflect sociopolitical issues and current events, as its current story arc pits First Lady Lily Ann (Lorna Tolentino) and Secretary Renato Hipolito (John Arcilla) as presidential front runners in an election set to take place in future episodes.
If you’re both a fan of the show and a keen observer of the current political climate in the country, chances are that you might suspect these developments in the show’s narrative are a way to mimic the ongoing election season.
Lily Hidalgo and Renato Hipolito are both Cardo Dalisay’s (Coco Martin) enemies, but they are also notably each other’s nemesis. Their bitter rivalry and quest for evil supremacy take them to the national political stage, where they both vie to snatch the topmost position in the government. Of course, this isn’t surprising, given Hidalgo and Hipolito’s wickedness and record of nefarious activities and greed for power.
This chaotic pursuit of power, with Hipolito and Hidalgo acting as main players, coincides with Dalisay’s relentless struggle to bring down Oscar Hidalgo, who he believes has turned his back on them. Of course, the real Oscar Hidalgo (Rowell Santiago) remains stranded in a remote coastal town, while he waits for his chance to finally come in the open and reclaim, not just his position in the government, but also his dignity and reputation, which he lost because of Lily’s betrayal and the fake Oscar Hidalgo.
Interestingly, the Presidential Debate on FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, which is titled ‘Tapatan Para sa Bayan 2022’ tackled some issues that presidential aspirants in our upcoming national polls had to answer themselves. Perennial issues like whether or not the morality of the candidate is important in deciding which one deserves the vote.

More than 130,000 concurrent live viewers watched the Presidential Debate on FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, which aired on February 15, Wednesday. Notably slightly higher than SMNI’s Presidential debate, which featured presidential candidates Ernesto Abella, Norberto Gonzales, and the son of the infamous Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Bongbong Marcos.
The debate had at least 120,000 viewers on YouTube during its simultaneous airing with FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
However, the SMNI debate peaked with more than 140,000 concurrent viewers by 10 PM.
