Why You Should See It:
Kilig’ and humor don’t run short in First Lady which serves as a sequel to GMA Network’s highest-rated series of 2021. The San Lopez-starrer promises to bring happiness to this pandemic and judging the pilot episode, it’s so far succeeding.
President Glenn Acosta (Gabby Concepcion) and Yaya Melody (Sanya Lopez) are now married, after defeating the combined forces of Lorraine (Maxine Medina) and Glenn’s mother, Madam Blesilda (Pilar Pilapil). Lorraine isn’t antagonistic anymore, but she still occasionally hits Melody with her signature sarcastic remarks. She is now, in fact, part of a team that ensures Melody will move and act as the ‘perfect First Lady’.
To meet that goal–the aid of the past three former First Ladies got enlisted and played by Isabel Rivas, Samantha Lopez, and Francine Prieto, the show’s version of a former First Lady, isn’t the one you’d most likely expect.
They are rude, snooty, and arrogant, too.
I’d be honest to say this feels a bit of a stretch. It makes you question whether these kinds of people still exist today, much less in an environment such as where Glenn and Melody are in.
I mean, if these three wives of former Presidents are First Ladies–they should have either learned to be modest and respectful or mastered the act of concealing bad behaviors. (especially when there are many pairs of eyes witnessing how they belittle the former First Yaya).
There are enough dosages of warmth and charms here that should make up for the show’s little flaws. It’s a wise choice to capitalize on the mix of Concepcion and Lopez’s chemistry and their fairytale love story. Honestly, that made the original series work. It will be interesting, too, to see whether First Lady will be a classic Cinderella or a modern one with tangible Filipino sensibilities.
First Lady now airs on GMA Network and GTV, from Mondays to Fridays, right after 24 Oras. Watch the official full trailer below:
