GMA Network will be the one adapting the hit Korean series Start-Up. On February 17, Thursday, a rumor surfaced that Kapuso stars Bea Alonzo, Jeric Gonzales, Yasmien Kurdi, Alden Richards will lead it.
If Alonzo is indeed part of the project, this means that it is her first teleserye as a Kapuso since making her transfer from ABS-CBN back in 2021. It is also her first time working with Kurdi and Gonzales.
On the other hand, Richards has worked with her in a shampoo commercial. They also have an upcoming movie, which is also a Korean adaptation.
Start-Up is about a woman who dreams of becoming an entrepreneur like Steve Jobs but was also involved in a love triangle between a man who is secretly her first love and another man pretending to be her first love.
Meanwhile, some netizens shared their opinions regarding the rumored cast.
One netizen believed that GMA Network should have gone for a younger cast member, given the storyline of the original series.
“They should have went for younger actors since the series is about young adult in their mid 20’s na nagsisimulang maging entrepreneur…. Ang ganda pa nmn ng K-drama na ‘yan…”
“Dpat binigay sa mas bata yung roles i’m not against pero iba kung mas bata ung gaganap dito,” said another.
Others were not like the decision of the network to add Gonzales to play the character Han Ji Pyeong. The role was played by Kim Seon Ho in the original series.
“I haven’t [watched] Start-Up yet. Better choose a good actor that has a good acting skill. For me lang ha, kulang pa kase yung skill ni Jeric eh pagdating sa acting.
“I’m not saying na pangit pero mataas kase talaga yung expectations ng mga mahihilig sa kdrama like me. There a lot of good actors na fifit sa magiging character ni Jeric. Abangan na lang natin soon. Hehe just saying,” a netizen wrote.
A netizen even suggested having Richards don the role of Han Ji Pyeong. She added that Alonzo was excluded from the cast due to her age.
“Mas bagay kay alden ang role ni Good Boy GMA bka naman. Swap nyo nalang.. and i’m not against Bea sana po yung Mas Bata Like Encatadia Angels… So Yun Aminin ko nalang di ako naexcite sa casting.”
In the meantime, GMA Network has yet to release a statement confirming the rumor.
