Ruru Madrid admitted he almost left the entertainment industry in 2021 because of depression.
In a recent interview, he confessed that it crossed his mind–the idea of quitting showbiz.
“To be honest, last year 2021, it’s not a good year for me. Ang dami kong pinagdaanan na mga challenges. Umabot sa point na medyo na depress ako, nawalan ako ng drive, ng passion.”
Madrid shared that one of the factors that triggered his decision to leave showbiz was the many delays in his upcoming series titled Lolong.
“Lolong, I’ve been waiting for this project since 2019, lagi ko nga po nake-kwento sa inyo na sobra kong nag-wo-work out, kahit puyat ako nag-wo-work out ako, nagda-diet ako, nagre-research ako about my character but dahil nga siguro sa mga delays or dahil na rin siguro sa pandemic lagi po kaming nade-delay, lagi po kaming naka-cancel.
“So, umabot sa point na parang baka hindi ito talaga yung bagay na para sa akin, baka hindi ito ‘yung propesyon na para sa ‘kin, maybe kailangan ko bumalik ng pag-aaral para hanapin na yung bagong propesyon na ‘yun. Dumating na ko sa point na ganun.”
Madrid said that he reached the point of doubting himself, questioning if he was in the right profession.
After surviving his depression, he shared that he is now looking forward to overcoming challenges and achieving his goals.
“This time, dahil nga naka-survive ako doon sa nangyari sa ‘kin last year, kahit na ano pang pagsubok ang pagdaanan ko, kahit na ano pang challenges ang pagdaanan ko, kakayanin ko na. Hindi ko na hahayaan ‘yung sarili ko na ma-depress ako or malungkot ako as long as may goal ako,” he stated.
